For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

They have a few P Days (Prep Days) after they get to GL to form a company. During this time they get issued clothing, do a little medical, hair cuts, paper work, etc. After the company has been established, they begin their actual boot camp training which takes 8 weeks. See my entry (reply) on General Discussion Boot Camp June 10.

Yes! Crying and feeling that empty spot in my stomach... My son leaves home on the 14th and then flies to GL on the 16th. He is excited and is ready to get started, but I want time to stand still. The hardest thing is wondering how much he will change once he is into the military life and if we will ever be as close again as we are now. That's probably a stupid thing to worry about, but it's there in the back of my mind anyway.

Loraine,, I cried so much before my son left on Memorial Day. I know what you mean. I think it was actually worse before he left than it is now for me. I finally am at the stage where I can speak of him without breaking down. That took quite a few days. So be prepared and hang in there. Send him with his cell phone so he can text you on the way there. That made him and me feel better. Testing is safer because he can't hear you cry. I was/am worried about him changing too.. I know he will change and I am concerned about whether we will be as close, too. I have had some days to think about it and I think that he and your son will come out a stronger more mature man than when we sent them. I think the basic personality traits that we love so much will not change.They will still remember all that we have taught them. They will just have additional strength and maturity. I hope this helps. I will be thinking about you and him. FYI- I wasn't sure if one could get dehydrated from crying, but I think its possible, and I think I did. Just a medical warning from a non-medical mom!

Thanks, Jane! It's good to know someone else has the same concerns and fears, even if they seem unrealistic. I agree... our boys will become men and will gain skills and strength that they wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. Dehydrated from crying....a definite medical possibility! :-)

My son is in the air right now on his way from Philadelphia area to Great Lakes. He was psyched about the free food in the USO and his window seat. Wow, it can only go downhill from here huh?? LOL... wait until he gets to BC. I can't wait for the phone call and first letter. I am sad and missing him, the house feels empty even though I still have 2 daughters here, he was always the life of the party and always kept us laughing and crazy... It feels really weird he isn't home or coming home for a long time, the dogs are even looking for him.

It is funny how even the animals react, our little dog seems to not know what to do with himself, That is how I am, I don't know what to do with myself. i know I should go through is bedroom and organize it. But I can't bring myself to do that right now. I too have two more little ones at home which makes it easier but I am a little more into myself and my feelings right now than theirs and that has to stop or they resent me and their brother, my husband is handling it like a trooper, and is very proud!!

It is hard when there are other family members who don't seem to hurt as much and get annoyed seeing us upset. With my family I think they just feel helpless when they see mom sad and don't know how to make me feel better. I try to cry alone and if I can't, wear sunglasses! :-)

Isn't that true!! I do cry alone and in the car with my sunglasses on,glad to hear i am not alone :)

Hello Everyone,
My son left on Wed. June 16 out of Denver then to chicago then on a bus. I am really proud of him. I do miss him terrible. He's in Ship 12 DIV 263 Anyone have a son or daughter in that group? I write him everyday, just things I did thru out the day. Hope you all have a good night

I can't believe he left on the 16th and you already know what ship and division he is in. My son arrived the week before and I just found out Friday what ship and div.!!

I was just reading this and I agree with motomom because my son left on the 10th and is with ship 12 division 263. How could he get a div so fast?
