Hi, my husband graduates on 08/06/10 and his A-school is in Great Lakes. His schooling is for over a year and I will be going to bootcamp in February. My question is would we be able to live together on base while he is in A-school. My goal is to move in August but I don't know if the wait list is to long. Thank you!

I don't knw the answer to your question but I'm sure Hoppi, paymaster, antiM or someone will come through and answer it. I do have some suggestions for you though. Join the following groups (if you haven't already)

The group for A school in Great Lakes (not sure of the exact name)
Boot camp Moms
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet here will answer some questions you may have before YOU go to boot camp

http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinfebruary this group right now probably still has 2010 stuff on it but soon will be cleaned up for 2011. Here you'll connect with those leaving in Feb 2010.

The last two with the http address...just click on the address.
I usually answer this for dependent spouses, and I am not sure if I'm reading your question correctly or not.

You can get an apartment in the area before you join the Navy, he can put in a Live Ashore packet to stay with you once he has earned his phase two liberty. That is two or three weeks, so don't plan on moving in with him PIR weekend!!! Not going to happen. Getting base housing is iffy, there is a waiting list most of the time. The Navy will not pay for you to move up there.

Once you go to bootcamp, he must move back into the barracks and give up the apartment/housing. While you are in boot camp, you will not see him in person until PIR. Communication will be letters and the occasional call, just as with any other recruit. Even at PIR, he must get special permission to go to your graduation. A school students are forbidden from "crossing the street" as going over to the boot camp side is called. You may not go visit him during boot camp. You two will not ever share a barracks room. The Navy can be very strict.

Does that answer some of your questions?
Sort of. But I have been told by him and by our recruiter that I can move with him as soon as he graduates and that the Navy will move me out there because his A-school is longer than 13weeks. So I have been getting a lot of different answers, so I will just wait and find out what happens. And yes I am a dependent spouse but its weird because we are eachother dependents.
He cannot move off base until he has permission at A school. A school is different. Takes about two weeks to get his phase II privileges. Read any of the Live Ashore discussions.

Your BAH will begin while he's in boot camp, but that doesn't mean he can move in with you directly after PIR. I promise, he cannot.

I'll bounce this past Chief Hoppi, she's an active duty chief (NCC) at Great Lakes and can quote regs for you.
Thank you your help is really helping me. Yea the other people seem to not know what their talking about it gets kind of frustruating. But again thank u very much
LOL, some of us have been doing the Navy thing a long time... me? Since birth. Dependent daughter, then I was active duty, then dependent wife, and now retired wife. My nephew is a nuke and my friend is on the Dubuque (which was one of hubby's ships). I joined this board for them, to learn how the Navy has changed since I was in. It has some, but not really.

You'll get through this and have some fun along the way. Sorting out the details is what's er, ... interesting.
lol...thank you...I'm looking forward to the journey. I also learned that my husband is in the reserves...would that make a difference?
Not sure, but for school he's in with the active duty. He'll still be under the same liberty rules.
LOL, I got out right before I would have taken my first E-7 exam. In fact, when they were supposed to cancel mine, they cancelled my hubby's instead (He's first alphabetically by first name). So he ended up taking my exam! I'd have aced the test, I am the best test taker ever. My evals were more 3.8 than 4.0, so who knows? I never could keep my mouth shut all the time.
Hi aneshao,
You have connected with two of the most knowledgeable people on this site, Anit M and Hoppi Angie and JessicaB another great gal. Please ask your mom to join this site too. Because of a mis-communication, I missed meeting aneshao this last weekend. Take care, look forward to seeing you soon.
My daughter graduates from boot camp in Oct. Then goes to A school in FL. Can she have her car there with her or do we get it to her after A school?
The Navy will provide transportation I believe.
