There seems to be so many of you lately!!! It is wonderful that you will have each other's support while going thru the process together.

Thought I would start this thread so you can at least connect and share stories together. Seems like there is a fair amount of you in Great Lakes and just as many more trying to decide if you can more to Great Lakes.

As we are waiting for orders and we've been thinking about the decisions we've made etc.... i wanted to put this out there to all the wives/husbands who live on the west coast. If you want San Deigo orders for C school and your sailors Home of record i on the West coast or in the west, you probably want to stay there. We would love San Diego orders (but we are really ok with anything) but since me and the kids moved out here, its not even a possibility, I just wanted to put that out there, I wish we would have known before we made our decison.... but looking back at it, we wouldn't have changed our decision to move to GL. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!!
Camille, I am glad you mentioned that point. I am originally from Southern California. We found out after we moved to great lakes that it would be less likely that DH would be able to receive orders for C school in San Diego. There is a small window for FC students to get orders for San Diego. And an even smaller window for a student with dependents.
Moving to great lakes for DH's A school was the right decision for us. We have no regrets about leaving CA. If we made the decision to stay in California I would have been miserable and the kids would have missed their daddy. And most important my DH would have missed over a year of the kids growing up. Being a navy wife you have to be prepared for the unknown. Saying good bye to your home town is one of them. No matter where we end up CA or VA, I know their are blessings waiting for us.
You have such a good attitude Mary - you will be a valuable support system to your husband's career!
We have decided to stay here in SD while my hubby is in GL for school. It was a hard decision to make, but so far have not regretted it and he left for BC in January. I hope that we will get orders in SD and by staying here it sounds like it will be a possibility. Moving is obviously an inevitable part of this lifestyle, but it is still nice to think we can be home here in SD (with our sailor) a little bit longer. :)
Hey AprilV,

my husband is finished with A school and is waiting for C school orders as well. How long has your husband been finished with A school? My husband finished the second part of ATT last week (he is a FC). Any news or word on how long the wait is? Last I heard is it could be 1-6 months.....meaning they really have no clue.
Hi ladies! Hoping to move to the GL area by end of July to be with my sailor! Going next week for PIR and hoping to find a safe/affordable apartment so your info about places around there has been much appreciated!!!
hey, I live in woodlake apartments in gurnee. they are really nice and give really good deals. I talked them down to 800 a month. If I were you I would call and speak to Melissa or Kay about it. They are really nice and help out alot.
Okay so can someone explain to me again how the Phases work? Cause I thought they had to wait months before they got to phase two, but I just got off the phone with the hubby and he said that they were told once they pass a PFA they'll be phase 2.. ? He's an ET and his school starts July 6th, i think he just moved over there today (he PIR'd 6/18)
It took my husband 2 weeks to get to phase 2. They have to do all these watches and a test, some ships require more or less. But most ETs and FCs phase up at least by 3 weeks.

April- My husband took 8 months complete school (with the holds) but we should still be here until Oct or Nov because of the hold for C-school orders. So overall we'll be here for 12-13 months.
AprilV,

The thing with that is he will go to C school first...and that could be almost another year. And if he is a FC then there are only 3 school locations. Is your hubby an ET of FC? ET schools can be all over the place, but so far I haven't heard of any being in WA. But I'm no expert. lol Also (from what I've seen) most married ETs and FCs get stationed in either San Diego or VA. You might lose y'alls chance of him going to CA if you move to WA....just something to think about...
so i was just wondering if any of you guys are around the dahlgren,va area? ill be moving there soon so he can start c school..
Yes you should get travel pay/per diem as well as the dislocation allowance. But i've also heard that if you do a government move you don't get travel pay, i'm not too sure about this but I know it did happen to a friend of mine who did a government move and was told they didn't get the travel pay. For SURE though you should get the dislocation allowance. Your husband has to fill out and submit the paperwork. He can do all this at his PLR office, i believe. Hope this helps :-)
