Typical parent. Evidently I know nothing even though I've probably done more research on the Navy and what my daughter will be going through. She says "Navy Mom's don't know anything, they aren't in the Navy". Well, either are YOU sweetie pie, but yet their daughter's ARE so  yes, I think they know what they are talking about...ugh...teens.

Anway, my daughter isn't doing much preparation. Isn't working out (even tho I bought her tons of stuff to work out with), barely studying (hasn't taken her real ASVAB yet, that's on Tuesday)...doesn't seem to want to do much other than sit out in the sun and sit on her bed texting people.

I don't know how to motivate her to prepare herself for the Navy. Because after all, I know nothing. She thinks she'll be "eased" into excercising there so no need to work out now. Please, someone tell me I'm not going crazy, and how the heck do I motivate this veeeeeery unmotivated aka lazy 18 yr old.

thanks! That's what I thought it was, but wanted to know for sure. Not sure who is more nervous about her test in 3 hours...her or me?!
well she will either call you or come home, this is what I was told. If she passes to test then she will be off for her physical and then to a job counselor that is usually tomorrow, they are going to get her up "very"early. Hope she is a morning girl....

Just give her a kiss and wish her the best, it is up to her from here on out mom. Nothing you or anyone else can do for her.

Good luck and do not stress yourself.
The Navy IS her plan B! She wanted to be a veterinarian and realized 1.: she couldn't afford the college she wanted to go to; 2. she wasn't prepared to spend almost 7 years to become a vet. She wants to work NOW!

Originally she wanted to join the AF, but they eliminated the position she wanted. She didn't want to "settle" for something else, so she looked into the Navy. Thankfully, they have what she wants here.

She isn't into seeing into the future, no matter how hard we try and guide. We told her to get a plan B from the beginning (when she started applying with the AF). She procrastinated for a YEAR and finally chose the Navy. We've asked her what her plans are if she doesn't make it, and she gets really really angry because she thinks I THINK she won't make it. Just the opposite...I think she CAN if she tries, however, if you don't try...no promises!

Btw, her test was yesterday, and she didn't get the results. She said she will find out on Friday.
Carolyn...I feel your struggle...our girls have minds of their own...they have to do things their way, believe me I know...my SR floundered after high school, did the college thing, then partied, modeled, partied, did I mentioned partied???? She moved home last summer, waitressed and went to school..then one day said she was joining the NAVY? I said "sure, let me know how that works out!" She actually did it and is 1/2 way thru BC! Let ur StrongWilled child take this path, she just might surprise both of you.... best wishes....
I am gonna second that Shannong. My Sr is 15 days from PIR and she has said it is much harder than she had expected. Not the PT, but the studying and the tests.

They will get through it if they want it bad enough.
Hi all,
My daughter ran her first 5k today. It was a total of 70 runners( recruits and recruiters from all the branches at the recruiting station). She came in 5th place with a time of 22mins and 15 secs. Her reward is this evening off and tomorrow morning off from running. I am very proud of her. Now we just have to get that fear of swimming in the deep end taking care of. Baby steps first then crawl then full speed ahead. I remind myself of all the hard gymnastics skills she was afraid of but did what was needed to win. I hope she takes that same attitude with swimming. If she keeps her BC date of March she will have time. Recruiter seems to think she will leave sooner. I am not going to worry about it at least not panic right now.
Congratulations to your daugther tks4!!!! Don't panic now - - - trust that she will be ready when the time comes. And know that they will keep her safe in bc. My daughter that is going in after college graduation is worried about the swimming stuff also. But she signed up to take swimming classes so she can learn new as a beginner. She can swim she just wants to build up confidence. If your daughter is a dep she can use her local YMCA (if you have one nearby and if it has a pool) free of charge. She just has to show proof that she is enlisting and in the dep program.
Thanks we will check into the YMCA. I didnt know it was free for her. I offered her private swim lessons but she does not want a stranger teaching her. She spends time swimming at a friends house. Her friend is helping her with the swimming and my daughter is helping her with running. Making progress at her own pace. Hopefully, her recruiter will add swimming into their outings. They are a very active group.
That is wonderful that she has a great support group. Her recruiter should be able to help her get her free membership for the Y. There was some paperwork my daughter needed to get hers. And it's only for while they are in dep so they have a place to work out and work on swimming.
Good luck to her.
Do your daughters not know how to swim and they are just learning now? Cause my daughter LOVES it, just doesn't know all the correct strokes. Took lessons as a kid. Not remotely scared of the water. However, not sure what will be expected right off the bat.
Patti, My daughter can swim but doesn't like the deep end. She can swim across the pool and from shallow to deep. Jumping in is another story. I watched a BC video and they have to jump in very deep water. This is what my daughter needs to work on. I know if she sets her mind to do it she will. She started running many miles because she thought she had to be able to run 6 miles. She has made it to that goal. She is very committed. Never misses a day of her workout routine . She keeps her journal up to date. The recruits and her recruiter are wonderful. They workout morning and evening. I am sure she will have their support and help with the swimming.
Wow she's very motivated huh? That's great!! We live pretty darn far from her recruiters office (darned tourist traffic snarls the roads up) and she doesn't have a license, so she's pretty much stuck doing everything on her own. She really doesn't have the support you have, unfortunately.
