I'm not a mom, but my boyfriend graduated 7/23/10 and is a nuke!!
My son graduated from Great Lakes in March and has now finished the first round of A School in Goose Creek. He is now known as Machinist Mate Petty Officer. He is on T-Track now which means I think he gets to clean and stand watch for a couple of months. He will also be able to work out because once they start sitting in the classroom for 10 hours each day, they get "doughy" or at least that is what he says. He was just home for the first time since before boot camp. He is doing great and I did not see any dough. The sailor is built! It is great to be able to talk to them more since they are out of boot camp but they still keep them pretty structured. It takes a couple of months to get overnight liberty, civilian clothes privileges. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. My mother lives in South Carolina pretty near Goose Creek so I spent the month of June in SC and was able to spend 4 weekends with my son and I made a bunch of trips out there. I could not be prouder of our Sailors!
My boyfriend got to Goose Creek this past Sunday. He said the classes won't start for 2 weeks!
Navygirl, what rate is your bf? Parker is an ET and he said that the EM/ET group won't class up for at least 2-4 weeks. Said that they are backed up.

ProudMom, good to see you again!! I guess Kurt is arriving today at GL. Parker really likes the base and has stayed friends with a lot of the boys from his PIR group. What rate is Kurt?
Kyle arrived in SC on Saturday night, Sunday morning. He's getting settled in and seems to like his roommate. Kyle's training will be an ET. Kyle gave me a sheet of paper Friday that outlines his path after RTC. Did anyone else get to see the paper? I know another sailor going in a different field didn't get a paper. He was on his way to Pensacola and didn't have any idea what to expect.

If I understand correctly, the sailors first have to complete NMT (Naval Military Training) for 8 weeks and then "A" school starts. For the 1st 4 weeks, their liberty is only within a 75 mile radius, no overnight and no civilian clothing. Then week 4 to week 8 the sailor can request weekend liberty within a 400 mile radius. My house is 291 miles!!

I'll ask tonight if classes have started. I know he has to report at 7 in the mornings.
Parker is also an ET and he said that they were backed up and wouldn't class up for another 2-4 weeks. I am right there with you on the mileage. Our house is 297 miles! Whoo Hoo!

Isn't the NMT the Bootcamp that they have already completed? Phase 2 (the second 4 weeks) is also when they can have their cars. I think we are planning a trip down about that time to take Parker his car.
my bf is also an ET!
Here I am Sistahs!! I AM DA NUCLEAR BOMB! Did I ever tell you ladies Binker started out pulling alerts before I found out I was pregnant because I was one of the very first women (#3 in the hole, #1 for arrival) to integrate minuteman II nuclear missile crews/alternate command post (definately # UNO here) at Ellsworth Air Force Base. This boy was born glowin'. He's got Nuke in his blood!

and you wondered why I'm so unabashedly weird! Long live the Glowing Oreo Queens! Our crowns float around our heads naturally with an unnatural aura!!!!!
Good to see you again Binker's mom! What rate is your son?
Alex is an MM--good to see you too!
OK, Binker's Mom, I'm in, even though my son is still at RTC. He'll catch up to his former shipmates from 7/23 as soon as he can! And he's an MM, too!
ahhh hugs! we're all slowly becoming clones here!!
