I have really enjoyed being apart of the PIR 7/30/10 group.  Now I feel that just as I was getting a handle on all of this and beginning to feel somewhat comfortable, graduation came (Yeahhhh) and went (Awhhhhhh!) and now here I am all over again.

We are not quite sure when our daughter will get to her new duty station.  Once there, do they have liberty every weekend?  Are they able to bring a car?  Do they get to keep more "stuff"?  How do we get the "stuff" to them?  If we ship, is there a "best" way or rate that someone has found?

So many questions.  If anyone has words of wisdom, I'd welcome the advice or suggestions.

Welcome Emsmom,

My Sailor is at his first duty station.......only been there for a wk. Our Sailor came home, for the weekend. He does have to get it approved. From my understanding, they can leave the base whenever they want.....to go out to eat, walmart, movies, ect.... They have to get it approved, if they want to come home. When she gets off of work, she can do whatever. I don't think they really use the term, "Liberty" once they're at their first duty station. Our oldest Sailor basically comes n goes, has he pleases.
Yes, they can have a car.

KYMOM knows a lot!!!!!!!!!! She's in VA, visiting her Sailor. She should be back soon, if not back already.
Welcome, I am still in Norfolk staying at the Navy Lodge. I am on day 4 in Norfolk..

She can't have car tell she gets to a certain time frame at School. But they will let her know when she can have her car. A computer, cell phone and some civilian clothes is all she will need at this point.

They get friday off every other weekend.
KYmom - I hope you're having fun, with your Sailor :).

I thought she was asking about, once they're at their first duty station.......what can they have.
Thanks for your reply. We left my daughter at GL Friday afternoon. Drove back (10 hrs.) Mon. Tues. i had to go to work. She called about 6:30 a.m. to say that she was in the USO at O'hare ready to transfer to her first duty station. She was not suppose to go until the 14th. (Who knew?) My husband is getting her stuff together to send as soon as possible. Again, thanks, and to KYmom, enjoy your time in Norfolk.
Where is her first duty station?
They change all the time on when they leave according to flight availabilty and room availibty .
