Well I just found out that My son just finished school For RP. Now he is off to combat school In March. As of now he is on hold as the navy likes to do that alot. He was hoping to come home to visit before He is off to combat training and then off to war. I'm crossing my figures that he comes home this weekend. I would like to see him before I cant for awhile.I really do think that the Navy like to play games with these men and woman. Its a shame!!
From what i have been advised, and my own personal experiences with family...they have ALL come home prior to leaving for thier tours. One of my cousins has served 2 tours (he is currently in his 2nd) and he was home prior to leaving for both. He was also home to visit when he got home from his 1st tour. Just keep hangin' in there!
After high school he wanted to join the Marines I was scared, this was in 2003 there was a training accident around the swimming pool in boot camp. I asked him to think about it talk to other branches and to so former military persons. He did, he went to college and ran ( he went to state 3 times in high school) cross country. A year and half later he comes home and says he joined the Navy. We are very proud of him. He has come a long way and even earned expert shot on firearms.
My first has graduated his school and is stationed on a sub he likes what he does has been on one cruise and found it fascinating !! What a different life it is upon a sub. He is stationed close to home (an hour away) comes home every weekend and some times during the week. My next one is still in A school and then one to leave for BC in 6 weeks. They are all nukes.
Karen -
Three nukes? Wow - you would certainly be the source for nuke questions, it seems! Our son is in BC right now, due to graduate March 28. Then to nuke school. Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to arrange the grad weekend schedule. He has called every Sunday and told us last Sunday that he is grad n go so he wanted us to come to nuke school that weekend instead of graduation. I said OK, but now I think missing graduation would be a mistake. So I'm thinking about totally breaking the bank and having us fly to graduation and then straight to SC after that. Then spend the weekend with him there. Did you do this with either of yours? Any comments about the checkin process at nuke school? I called the indoctrination office there and they told me he'll definitely get liberty on Sat and Sun the 29th and 30th and will report to school Monday. If you have any info about all this, it would be helpful. I haven't made air reservations and am starting to worry about seats being available. Thank you!
What a great attitude Brenda! You are so right, we won't be buying their food, clothes paying for the doctors or dentist bills - it's a different support now. All from the heart :-)
sorry my boys have not been a grad and go so I could not be helpful with regards to this
Hi Karen!
I was wondering about what goes on after they finish A school. Here is what I thought I heard the recruiter say...Bryan would finish boot camp and then attend A school. He would be gone for eight months and then head out to sea. I could have confused many parts of that conversation! I believe Bryan will be learning air traffic control, however when I talked to him on Monday he said that might change to Aircraft Warfare Specialist( I think that is what he said). With all your great experience, can you make sense it!

Thanks a bunch!
Kimberly
Well, I made the reservations the other night and we will now fly to Chicago, see graduation, then fly to SC to hopefully spend time with him over the weekend. He has called every weekend so I got to talk with him yesterday and tell him our plans. I know he'll be looking forward to seeing family! Thanks to everyone for their helpful comments!
Kathy -
My son graduates 3/28 and is grad n go. I called the indoctrination office at the nuke school and the guy said that recruits would have liberty that weekend. Can't drive, drink, or go more than 75 miles off base. No civilian clothes for a month, I believe. Back on base by midnight or something like that (it was later than we would be out, so I didn't write it down). I heard from at least one other grad n go mom whose son already graduated that her son did get liberty that weekend in Charleston. I think if their school doesn't start the next Monday, they still keep them busy on base - cleaning, doing odd jobs, whatever. Hope that's helpful! Wow - your grad day is coming soon! Will he run battlestations this week? My son called yesterday and said they'll do it on the 20th, which seemed early to me for a 28th graduation. I thought they did it just a few days ahead of grad.
Kathy, they do battle stations the week before graduation and then that last week is totally stressed free for them. They do graduation practices, get some down time which includes time to call home, go to Navy Ex, watch (some) tv and eat at Taco Bell! And most important prepare to see their families!
Hello, my name is sheila, My son Zach is in Div 129 ship 11. What div and ship is your son in?
