Hi, My son also reports on that date. He is 18. How are you handling this? Im having a hard time it would be nice to have another Mom to go through this with.
Ruthie
just brought my son up to recruiter. he leaves Aug. 10. was told to see him off at the airport tomorrow, after he takes his oath. i have very mixed feelings. i thought i was ready for this, but my stomach is saying something else. he's been waiting for over a year just to get in and now he really is going. he's the middle child and although my boys are young twenties, i will miss him the most. it's so quiet here. beth
My son, who is also 18, reported to boot camp on Aug 10. My husband and I are now empty-nesters and I really get the word "empty" now. I am so proud of him though and grateful to the navy for the opportunities they have offered him. When I got the phone call Tuesday night that we''ll receive his box in 2 weeks and hear from him in 3 weeks, it really hit hard. How do you not have contact for 3 weeks? I remember when he started kindergarten, everyone talked about separation anxiety but I think it is my turn now 12 years later to have separation anxiety :)
How are you doing a few days later? I hope better. It will be good to talk to other parents going through the same thing and supporting one another as our sons and daughters are at boot camp.
Hi Patsmom, our son also reported to boot camp on Aug 10th. We will also be empty nesters with our son leaving for boot camp last week and our daughter leaving for college on monday. I am also really excited for the opportunities the navy has to offer our son. I also got a phone call Tuesday night, it was tough hearing his voice on the other end and knowing it would be 3 weeks till I hear his voice again. When I got home from work on Thursday there sat "The Box" on the step. I had a hard time opening it, it was like my son in this box but without my son. I know it is harder on me then it is on my son, he is really excited about joining, and has wanted to join for a few years now. I know from having his older brother in the military, this is such a life changing experience for these kids. I know from experience this seperation will make him a stronger young man and that first phone call home will be tough for you both, it does get easier when the letters start arriving and you can communicate more often. I hope you have many family and friends around to help keep you busy, that seems to help me alot. Hope to hear from you soon, and God bless.

@Jessica- Thank you.
She is my only child and it is very hard. Its really hard when i walk passed her bedroom and she isnt there. I just hope that these 9 weeks go by fast.
My son just left today (Aug 10) and is supposed to arrive tomorrow. We have had such a great summer and I was sorry to see him leave but so excited for him. I felt like I was leaving him on his first day of school again! I am sure he will be fine but I just miss him so much already! I will be counting the days til graduation! My thoughts are with everyone else going through the same emotions as I am!

2 of my 3 sons arrived at boot camp on Mon Aug 9th. Will probably have the same PIR date. What a rollercoaster of emotions, So proud, and so sad, and so happy for them, and worried. Only heard from one son, the other called his dad as planned, only thing off from the message was off was that he said his stuff should arrive in 3 weeks, then he said he may get to call again in 3 weeks, so maybe he just was in a hurry and gave me the wrong info on the box stuff. I'm waiting to see how this plays out. I can't wait for the 8 weeks to pass so I can see them again. I am sure all mothers go through similar stages/feelings. I am in Laredo, Texas. I have not written the first letter yet, but should start this evening. I have the kids computers on and facebook logged in. Their friends can post comments and I will print and mail to them. (sorry for the discombobulated message, but I am all nerves).
My daughter called last night when she arrived. It was at 11:20. It was a short 15 sec. phone call. This is going to be a hard 8 weeks
I read where one mom posted that the recruiter had the mailing address 2 days after they arrived. Im calling the boys recruiter tomorrow
