Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Son ignores phone calls/letters from home....
My son started school in October and we didn't hear anything from him until he came home for Christmas. I made him "pinky swear" that he would stay in closer contact. While I know school is demanding and keeping him busy, could it really keep him so busy that he wouldn't call home for my birthday? I knew I would get a phone call on Mother's Day, but so far haven't heard a word.
Is this normal behavior? He hasn't contacted anyone from home. I've checked the cell phone records and he's only called Papa John's (no relative!!!) I'm planning a trip to Goose Creek around the first of June to try to find his carcass. I've gone from being upset to just plain old mad! If he's this bad about communicating, what's it going to be like later?
p.s. This isn't the first time he's been away from home. When he went out of state to college, he was better about staying in touch. Of course, those phone calls were necessary if he wanted to keep the $$ in his school account.
What should I do? What would you do or what have you done to reach your sailor? I had written a letter to the Commanding Officer a month ago, but didn't receive an answer from him either. I am grateful that we haven't had a real emergency or death in the family or this would have really driven me off the deep end.
Also, what do you tell people when they ask how's he doing? I've had a great family friend send him cookies a couple of times and she's never heard if he's even eaten them. My last package was returned as he wouldn't/couldn't get to the Post Office to pick it up.

Oh Becci, I am SO happy for you!!!! Thank you so much for updating us. You will have a wonderful time at graduation. My son just finished Prototype, was home for 2 weeks and then headed out for his first duty station (Hawaii, the poor boy). His sub has 6 month deployments so it sounds like it will be a while before we can go visit him. Your good news is just what I needed! Thanks again. Pat

Pat, ever since I heard your son was assigned to Hawaii, I keep hearing "Bali High" in my mind. I'm thinking of ordering a couple grass skirts for us to wear (I couldn't let you wear one all by yourself!!) Thanks for sharing your news as well!!

I AM really so very happy for you that Matt finally got in touch with you and possibly with himself. I know you will now have a wonderful time at graduation. Hey Chris' Mom!! Thanks for being supportive when I needed it! Isn't it amazing?! And I didn't have to go to GC and pinch that head off (though at the time that sounded GREAT!!). I'm really looking forward to his graduation, but I'm also dreading his going off to Ballston Spa. While it's not guaranteed that he's going to New York, he's pretty sure that's where he's going for Proto Type. My daughter is moving in 3 weeks to NYC, so she's excited that he'll be close by.
Argh - I'm going to go through the Empty Nest stuff again! And I thought menapause was bad!!! -

I know what you mean!!! I am hoping that Chris doesn't go to Ballston Spa - NY is REALLY far from Texas...but guess I'll get to see that part of the country if he does.
Hopefully they will be able to see each other and with 2 of them there - you will have to go. -

Just read a little of your journey glad to read your on the other side of trying times. If your son does go to Ballston Spa he would only be about 2.5 hours from the NYC. Both places are great to visit. Saratoga Springs is a very charming town and Lake George is close by and also fun to visit. Winters can be long especially if your not use to the cold weather but I am sure there will be other guys to show him how to ski when they have time off. I have never made it to NYC for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade but I think it could be a lot of fun for your son and his sibling. Best wishes and enjoy the graduation. My son will finish Power School 12/17 and is really hoping to be in Saratoga. We would then only be 4 hours away. -

Becci, your probably sick of hearing this but I am happy for both of you. You because you were so torn up inside and no deserves to feel that way and your son because he finally woke up and saw the light. I was crying and smiling at the same time reading your post :). Now I hope things improve for Algerine. Maybe I'll see you in SC next week. My son too is going to BS, he and a friend have already rented an apartment in Saratoga Springs.

I never get sick of hearing how happy someone is for me (LOL!!!). Actually, when someone pays me a compliment I ask them to say it slower so that I can savor it! I think one of the reasons I like this site so much is because when the praise is earned, everyone steps up. When someone needs a pat on the back, there's tons of hands reaching out to pat. When someone needs to wake up and smell the coffee, there's a lot of stinkers, er, people to help you wake up. Gosh, that last line really got garbled up!!
I think what I'm really trying to say is that the people who respond to the emails "get it". They're free to really express who they feel or how they view a situation. They can honestly see the forest from the trees and they tell it like it is. You've been awesome and I have really appreciated everything you've written. Keep it up!
I feel like I've lived a lifetime these past few months. And now we get to rejoice for a little while!! thanks!!! -
