Welcome Ursula8!!!! OMG, are you serious?????? Your son left on August 18th and you already have 2 letters???
hi sweety!, yes, one was personal, to me, dad and his sister, 2 whole pages!, and the other is the packet i've been hearing about that is a 2-page document, with all his grad info, his list of intended guests and 2 flyers. i am so happy this happened to us, because just from reading so many posts, i'm now able to share how quick this can really be for another anxiously waiting family to hear from their son or daughter! and he sounds so great, you know, you can just tell....
I guess that means my son should be able to write soon also. (I hope) You would think, if they are in the same division....they all would have been able to write, right? Does the whole division work under the same (what is the name of their leader) LOL
i think so too. nothing i have is dated, except i can tell they were mailed out on the 23rd. and i've only heard that their day for mail/writing is sunday, not totally certain of that though. i can also tell, that his personal letter to us is with his stamps i gave him, but the grad packet is on their dime using a usps stamp, so the navy paid for that, not davon. did you receive your box yet??
Oh...Oh...so much EXCITEMENT! I got my 1st letter today too! I was dancing all the way back from the mailbox! My son talked a lot about food and drills. He did say he was getting enough sleep which I find odd because all the other moms talk so much about sleep deprivation. Makes me wonder if he is making it sound better to keep me from worrying. He did complain a bit about military underwear which I found hilarious! He did mention that he wanted pictures. One of the other mothers suggested printing multiple pictures on 1 sheet of regular paper. Easy to fold, easy for them to hang and can be tossed and replaced with the next one sent. I think I'm going to print some pictures tomorrow and send those. Also, took trip to the local Hallmark store tonight. they have a line of cards called "America's Heroes" that speak specifically to military service. I bought 5!!! Let me know if I can help any of you!
OMG! I hope my son didn't get in some kind of trouble and was unable to write. : ( Maybe I just live further away, and mine will be here in a day or two. (I must stay positive) LOL
I am so happy for both of you!! Please standby while I have my pity party. LOL ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................OK, I am better now. I am really happy that they seem to be doing well. I have heard alot of the other moms say their first letter was little sad. Did they say anything else about what it's like in BC?
nope, he didn't say a word about food or sleep, but he really seems to have a great attitude, even if it is through a letter...only time will tell. but, davon went into this knowing that these officers and trainers are on his side, and like he'd say 'it's all good, i got this' - seriously, these are his words, i'd bet $!
i'm in san antonio texas...you? davon also said lots of yelling, lots of memorizing, stuff like that...but he said is laying low and following all orders; he himself hasn't been singled out yet...'yet'... :)
I'm in NC, and no I don't have my form letter yet either : (
I am in KS and my son's letter was dated 8/20 but postmarked 8/23. I did do some research before he left and sent him with stamped envelopes that were pre-addressed home and each envelope contained a piece of paper. Literally, all he had to do was find a pen and a mailbox. That might be why the quick response. Hang in there Vincent's Mom! BTW gals, my name is Tracy. I want to get to know you guys on a bit more personal level.

My letter was not long. 1 page - front only. He said that they get yelled at a lot for not moving fast enough. He also talked about his pay and how he had to purchase mandatory gear so there won't be much left on the first direct deposit (he has some bills I'm paying for him while away). He went on and on about how much food he is eating.......he said he gets plenty but they burn it off quick with all the marching and drills so at mealtime he has to eat fast but he did not complain about the quality or the quantity. Mentioned that he is pulling security duty a lot and requested those pics! I'm sure you will get a letter soon. NC is a bit further towards the east cost than KS or TX. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow - maybe it just takes 1 day longer to get to you!
Oh I hope so. I will definitely let you know. I look forward to getting to know you all better also. This site is such a blessing for me. I am so glad your son is doing great!
