My son reported to the USS Pinckney last week, just wondering if there was any one else here that has someone there too.  He graduated OCS Class 19-10, so consequently went from Coast to Coast, without being able to come home first.  Hope he gets to take some leave soon.

Congratulations to your son! My daughter graduated with 16-10, finished SWOS three weeks later on a Thursday and reported to her ship on Saturday. They sailed on Monday. She hasn't been home since the middle of March, and won't be back until November. But it could be worse. She could be in a combat zone. Lisa
Thanks Lisa, and congratulations to your daughter. His SWO class immediately following graduation was canceled, so he will be on his ship for 6 weeks, then return to Newport for the three week class, then back to San Diego. Don't know how you cope not seeing her for that long at a time, but I guess I will manage somehow. After four years of college, I should be somewhat used to the separation, but this is such a different kind. This N4M's has already been very helpful for me !! And you are so right, it could be so much worse. Thanks again !!
I'm not sure I'll ever get used to it, but she's been gone from my house for a long time. She graduated from college 4 years ago and got married and moved to Brunswick, ME with her Sailor husband. I guess, over time, it gets slightly less painful. I do miss being able to talk to her whenever I want. That part I'll never get used to! I know her husband misses her like crazy. He was in Iraq when she entered OCS, so aside from the 3 weeks of SWOS, which he was able to spend with her, they haven't seen each other for about a year. i don't know how THEY do it! Keep those positive thoughts going - both you and your son will benefit from them. Lisa
