Just thought I'd start a post so we can share where we are staying.

I'm staying at SpringHill Suites in Waukegan. The rate is $79.00 for a King Room with a separate sitting area with a pull out bed  and desk, mini frig and microwave. They do have a Shuttle for PIR - it's contracted through another company. It leaves at 6:30 AM and 7:30
AM the morning of graduation and costs $3 each way so $6 round trip. I
read many reviews on Trip Advisor and almost all LOVED it there. They
said the free breakfast was great - cook your own waffles, (boiled) eggs,
sausage, fruit, bagels, etc. There is a Super Wal-Mart very close as
well so if you want snacks you can get them there. It's 5.6 miles from
RTC.

I'm staying at the SpringHill Suites in Waukegan as well with a rate of $89.00 for 2 Queen beds seperate sitting area and all that other stuff...i'll be flying in the 14th and leaving out on the 18th unless she's a Grad & Go as well then I'll be busting my chops to get on her plane to go to San Antonio with her.!
I'm staying at SpringHill Suites in Waukegan too. I arrive on the 14th and leave on the 18th. I'm flying from Oakland CA to Midway. My family is picking me up and taking me to Waukegan.

Bring on the snacks!! :)
Residence Inn Waukegan 14 - 18th
Hi all, looks like many families are staying Oct. 14-18th .. does anybody know how much time we'll have with our guys, meaning, do they have to be back on base Sunday early? We have a horse farm and it's very tricky to get away for too long, of course we'll stay every minute that we actually can be with our son, but if Sunday is only a 1/2 day for access to him, we'll head out Sun night to go home. Also, his girlfriend and her mom want to come (he'll put them on his visitor list), and she'll need to be back to school Monday... ..I need to make plane and hotel reservations ASAP so if anybody knows, get back to us please!
Here's some info from the RTC web site:

Liberty is ‘time off’ from the daily routine. Graduating Sailors will be granted liberty to go off-base during the day with their families.

1. Graduating Sailors may not smoke, drive, or consume alcoholic beverages while on liberty.
2. Graduating Sailors must stay within a 50-mile radius of RTC.
3. Graduating Sailors must remain in their complete uniform while on liberty. If they are engaging in physical activity or swimming, they must be in authorized Navy issued workout gear.
4. Liberty expires at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. on Sunday. No overnight liberty is authorized. Due to security checks and transit time, please allow ample time for graduating Sailors to walk back to their assigned ship prior to the end of liberty.
5. Families may not enter the base after graduation and will need to meet graduating Sailors for liberty at the main RTC gate.
6. Graduating Sailors departing RTC for follow-on training the same day as graduation or in a duty status will be granted limited on-base liberty.
7. Graduating Sailors receive an in-depth liberty briefing prior to their graduation day.

In a letter to your son, ask him if he knows if he'll be Grad & Go or not. There is a discussion post about this as well.

I can tell you I'd probably try to get a flight out late in the afternoon or even late evening Sunday. Depending on what you are most comfortable with. His liberty will expire at 8PM on Sunday but he'll need to be back on base way before that so he doesn't get in trouble. That will still give you as much time with him as possible but still get you home.
THANKS! Just made my reservation at Springhill Suites, they were so helpful. Might also cross-reserve for Navy Lodge since it's right on base .. but am thinking, maybe my son would really enjoy getting "out" and eating fast food, shopping, etc.... whaddya think? Also, there's internet at Springhill; I was going to bring his laptop so he can facebook friends who are college, etc.... good idea or no?
Yay.. we have quite a group at SpringHill Suites now!

I am bringing my son's laptop and cell phone, too. I already know he'll want to just sit and relax and catch up for a bit. That's why I liked the layout of SpringHill Suites... it just seemed cozier. Ya Know?

Hubby's parents are coming too, but I think they may stay at the Navy Lodge. Father-in-Law is retired Army - but I wanted to stay somewhere with a pool and cozy atmosphere. We'll bring them to our hotel to hang out.

There's a mall not too far away, Gurnee Hills Mall. They have a movie theater. I'm thinking my hubby and son will want to go see Resident Evil... LOL... I think I'll go shopping while they do that!! ;)
Gurnee Mills Mall... I meant! Oops.
that is a great idea about the laptop and the phone to have him catch up! I will do that as well.
Hi foaling-lady! I'm going to bring my sons laptop and phone with me to the hotel. I know he will want to catch up with his friends! So I think it's a good idea!! :)
We got the Comfort Inn..not sure of the price, hubby paid for it.
Ok I figured out which Spring Hill you meant here and I am booked there now from 10/14-10/18 and yeah boy you have to hammer them on getting that graduation rate!
