Hi Ursula - I did book my hotel. I found it recommended out on one of the other forums by another mom. I wanted a place with an indoor pool as I also have a 2 year old to entertain during my trip. So, we are booked at the Springhill Suites (Marriott property). The hotel is located 5 miles from base and when I asked they gave us a GREAT military discount. I had to ASK for it though....so everyone be sure to tell the hotel why you are in town and ask if they provide discounts for familities attending PIR. I have yet to book airfare....
hi everyone, im Melody and my husband is on this ship. i got my form letter last week but yet to get a personal letter or a phone call. but reading sobe's information on the 900s div was really helpful. i haven't booked a hotel or ticket yet, i might have to get a loan from my parents, im afraid everything will book up when my husband's pay come in.
Ok everyone...I swiped this from another forum. I had some time this morning before work to haunt the other groups. It is time consuming to follow all so not sure how many of you have had time to search elsewhere.....It's about our 900s..

COPY AND PASTE STARTS HERE -

The 900 series divisions have many rates (jobs in the Navy). Their files are screened when they arrive at GL RTC. Sometimes right in front of the Recruit while a question session (interview) takes place. They want to make sure the Recruit has the stamina to handle ALL of the normal boot camp responsibilities AND participate in the PIR activities/performances. The 900 series divisions are very busy to say the least. Remember the division is run by the RDCs (three to my last knowledge). The RDCs have a 2 to 3 year stint. It is not an easy job - and sometimes tough on their families with them at GL RTC. Their goal is that their divisions succeed. With that said, not all 900 series divisions are run the same. Some SRs think they had it easy - some think it was difficult. It all depends who is running the division. Some of the things that may/may not be considered; ASVAB scores, previous leadership (could be ROTC - but many have not had ROTC) or work related experiences, previous college, etc. Not all placed in a 900 series division have had music, band, or even played an instrument. Yes, they are a performance division; because they perform, in some way, during their PIR and usually the two (2) prior. The 900 series divisions are scheduled so they have all performance duties covered (i.e. state flags, honor guard, drum corp, choir, band, rifles, etc.). They are usually mixed divisions: 44 male and 44 female - to start. Not all make the grade - but that is usually determined early (first couple of weeks) - they may be removed and placed in another division. This is an honor! Congratulations to your son. Be proud! : ) ~ kk
LOL, i've been haunting other groups too! I did read the one titled 'interesting info on 900 divisions', but I didn't see what you found - very interesting. And the first thing I felt after I read that post was how darn proud I truly was - I had no clue there were even particulars about divisions. Thank God for this site/groups!

And thanks for your input on where you're staying! My daughter and grandbaby Natalie are planning to come, she's turning 5 this coming Monday, so just maybe your little one can have a playmate :) And Natalie's a small 5-yr old, so not to worry...
Hi Ursula -

Reading that post made me proud too. That's why I had to copy it over here for you all to read! Still no phone call for me but in reading other posts, most moms are commenting that calls come on Saturday or Sunday so I'm really hopeful that this weekend will be the one!

My son Alex will actually turn 3 on the 13th. I have no idea how I'm going to work a birthday party into that week. It may have to be a very quiet, small family thing. We are planning to fly up on the 14th.

Glad to hear there will be other little ones around! Have you booked your hotel yet?
Also.....on one of the other forums.....seems that when calls come from our SRs - they will come from area code 847......so watch your caller IDs for it!
hey everyone! has anyone got a call or letter from there sailors yet? i know they are busy, but i thought i might ask.
same here, i only got the form letter, my cell phone is attached me all the time as well. i hope i could hear from my husband soon.
One form letter, one real letter but no phone call. I'm hoping the phone call will come this weekend!
My daughter, Kim, left on August 17 as well. W got the form letter after a week and received 2 letters yesterday. The first was short "I miss you and want to come home or hear you, write soon". The second was long and and upbeat. She was seperated from her friend she went in with because her friend didn't make the cut for choir. But they are going to the same "A" school. She is making new friends in 948.
Hi Punkyp91 - My son also mentioned a phone call in his latest letter. It arrived today and was dated Aug 29. It said, "right around the time you receive this letter, we may get to make our first real calls home, but that's if everything goes well. If not, it may be another full week." It's something to look forward too!
There are some AWESOME pictures on Facebook that were just posted of PIR this morning. Lots of photo's of those in performing divisions too! Once on FB, you have to search carefully to find the page, but if you type: U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command you will find it. You can only "like" the page, can't "friend" it - but it will appear on your home page after that in your likes category. So check each week to see if you can spot your recruit!
