Dillons Mom, sorry your having a hard day! We all change as we grow, change doesn't have to be a bad thing. The values, morals and good heart that you helped nuture in Dillon won't change. Now you'll have a combination of what he learned at home combined with the pride and confidence he'll have from the Navy. Remember our boys and girls are going to do Good!!
Well said, LoveUDrew! HUGS!
Just checking in to see if any of you have had a letter or phone call? Anxious for news from our division. I know mine won't write too often...if you hear anything and don't mind sharing, it would be most appreciated.
Sheilaq, no letter or calls . I'll definately share as soon I get any news. We are leaving to go to a family get together tomorrow and I'm afraid I'm going to miss a call. I checked with my local phone service and I can have my calls forwarded to my cell, so thats what we are planning on doing. I had no idea that I could do that or I would have been having them fowarded all along. In my sons letter he wrote, they would be allowed to write on Sunday and that would have meant last Sunday, so the letter must be coming soon. The Navy brochure says it takes 5 - 10 days for them to receive letters we mail, so I guess it must take just as long for us to receive their letters, looks like its swaying on the 10 day side. Its hard to be patient.
Here's to hoping for a letter this week. Gosh so many ups n downs this week! The last I heard (the form letter) he said he would writ on sunday. Well that was a week ago....39 days left!!!! I'm praying we all receive a letter this week!!!
Yes PattyV, it will be wonderful when we all recieve letters this week. It has to be this week. It just has to be!!! Its good to know that your son wrote the same thing about Sunday. I hope come Tuesday we are all yelling out that we have good news!
When I got my 10 second first call...he did say that he would have another chance to call in three weeks...that makes it this Wednesday! Hanging on that...sent him a phone card and if the 10 day timeline stays true he should have it by Tuesday. Thanks about the tip on forwarding our phone...I was wondering about that. So now I will have the cell phone attached to me at all times!
Sheilaq, I had my cell phone practicaly glued to my forehead today at the family get together, but it did me no good....no call. BOO HOO. Makes me feel better to know we won't is his call, no matter what now. Hang in there!!

I sent you a private message regarding exchanging names.
This may have been said before but If you are on facebook type in Us Navy Recruit Training Command and hit the like button. Questions that are posted are responded by the public affairs dept, and others as well :), also it looks like they will be wearing their dress blues. (I kinda though the white uniforms are cute:)...Just an fyi, sorry if this is repeat info.
So tickled to get a letter today, he said it was the first time since he has been there that he has had a chance to write and the first time he received my letters (a batch of them, no less). Says it is definetly no fun, but pretty easy academically so far. Lots and lots of memorizing, which he is good at. The physical stuff is hard, but as long as he doesn't "mess up", goes easier on him. Time goes by slow as their days are 16 hours long. Still, it's only 5 more weeks (they are counting too!) and is looking forward to the things they will be learning in the coming weeks. Right now mostly reading.

He has a cold and lost his voice. (Not what Mom wants to hear, but sounds like he is feeling better.) Says he got lucky with bunkmates and neighbors, "cool" guys and they get along well. Two from Phiily, one from Seattle, one from Jersey, and one from Okinawa (sp?). Says he will write again on Sunday. (My prepaid pre-addressed postcards served me well!) All in all a really upbeat letter and even got a "Love you, Mom" too.

I'm a happy camper...so why do I have tears in my eyes...I can't wait to hear about your letters. I know they are coming soon! Hugs from the Northwest!
Repost to make sure you all see this info! I though you all would want to know some more details in case your guys didn't share it.

Div 343 had a PI/DMI Inspection on 9/8. (Kris said it's basically Uniform inspection and rack-making inspection - I'm guessing it means Personnel Inspection and Division Military Inspection or something like that.) He said he got a 4.0 on each with the best score being a 5.0. I think that's great... but I may be a bit biased! ;)

On 9/10, he said they had their first big test. It was a computerized, 50 multiple choice question test and they had 30 minutes to complete it. Topics included UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), Ships, Aircraft, First Aid and Uniforms & Grooming. He doesn't know how he did on it but said they are now done with Phase 1 and his average is a 4.3.

So... good news 343ers. They are done with Phase 1... and althoguh I have no idea what Phase 2 is... I'm happy they have made it through another milestone!!! :) Yippee!!! Congrats 343ers! We are so proud of you!!!
I think I found the place where you can get the T-Shirts with the division flag on them!

You can find it here.

Not sure how soon we can order them or how long it takes... maybe I will get a chance to call tomorrow and find out.
