My son is Ship 10/ Div 340. We are from Wisconsin. We finally received our first letter from our son on Friday, Sept. 3. He says that he hasn't received any letters from home yet.
We are so close to you. Belvidere area.
Hey! You found us! Welcome kyjusbrad! My son's letter dated on the 29th (postmarked Sept 1) said that he did not get letters from home yet, but they were supposedly going to be allowed to get their mail on Aug 30th. He also mentioned that on Sunday, during their 'down time' they have to prepare for inspections, iron uniform, shine boots, and 'if' there is time left over, they can write. I've noticed mine said he's been writing by night lamp and stashing them away until they could mail them. No mail today, holiday. Sigh. But the good news is the SR's got some down time today too. Holiday schedules allows for down time in the morning, then back to regular BC after noon. Hopefully those that couldn't write on Sunday, certainly could today!
Hi,welcome kyjusbrad! How old is your son? My son turns 18 in boot camp poor boy. We got our first letter from him on Sat. He sounded sad! We are from Oregon. I was hoping for a call yesterday but nothing. It makes me feel a little better that no one else has gotten a call either. If I didn't know that I would worry that my son was in trouble.
Nala,

My son is 18. I am glad that the SR's got a chance for a little down time yesterday. My son is scheduled for (his words) "an extensive dental" today to see if he needs to have any or all of his wisdom teeth removed. I hope all goes well with that. It sure is hard not knowing what is going on!!
Hello,

We just received our second letter from our son today. He said that he just received our letters ( Aug 31) and we very grateful for them. He sounds very homesick and sore. He says that he hopes that his back will start to feel better soon as he is not used to all the standing and extra PT. He also said that at least his lower two wisdom teeth need to come out (they hadn't been removed as of the letter), so I hope that all that went well.

He misses everyone and wants them to keep praying for him. I cried all the way through the letter and all I can do is keep praying and keep writing!
Kind of wierd - you'd think they'd have done dental right away?! Now if they're SIQ, how do they catch up w/ the rest of the div? Never been a part of military before, I guess it's a whole 'nother world, eh? Glad you heard from your SR!!! I did get a letter last Thurs. from mine - hoping more will come soon! I also sent a letter along for him to give to a mail-less SR today, so hope we can cheer up another recruit!
Yesterday was a great day!!!! FINALLY got the first letter. Chris sounded pretty upbeat. said it was a LOT harder than he thought. He said they started getting yelled at the second they got there. He said that they like the F word a lot. he counted 27 times in the first hour. He likes theRDC's said they are pretty cool. He said that he got picked to be part of the ship staff and was the first SR on ship staff to lower the flag. and is the section 2 leader in marching. I don't know what any of this means, but he seems happy. I'm so glad that he didn't sound depresed. I don't think that I could of taken that. Well hope those that have not gotten letters will get them soon.
cbryant - Glad to hear you got your letter and all seems well! It does help so much! Sounds like you're SR is doing well! :-)
Very awesome dear - very awesome!! You should be proud!!! I would love to think that my son has made some distinguishment - we'll see :-) PS - Loud @ PIR?? YOU BET!! :-)
