While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Son left today 9/14
Hello,
This is my first time on here, my son left for boot camp today.. Been a day of mixed emotions. Just had a question, according to whay my son told me and the Great Lakes web site, he will be able to call home for about a 30 second phone call to let us know he has arrived. Havent heard from him yet, he should have arrived hours ago.. Is this common? Could he not call? Been on pins and needles waiting for the phone to ring. Thanks for any info anyone can give.

Yes, they get a quick call home the "I'm here" call BUT they have to have a calling card or a cell phone to call. Watch for the 847 area code and the id is usually payphone...sometimes it is "restricted" or "withheld" Most rcts don't arrive to RTC until after dark...so expect the call later tonight.

My son just flew out yesterday also and I never received the call either. Are we the only ones, or is this normal? He has a cell phone and calling card. I stayed up till midnight and then had my cell phone next to my bed all night. No missed calls. I have called his recruiter but he can not do anything this soon. Said we should have got the call. They make sure that each recruit contacts someone. So when will he call? Has anyone gotten the phone call after the first 12-24 hours???? Thanks so much!

Hi We dropped our son aff at the recruiters office at 2pm 8/29 and got the "Arrived safely" call at 12:10 AM 8/31.
definitly more than 24 hours. And it was VERY Quick.

i have created a group, Your Questions Answered, and i would love to help in any way possible. My mom used this site while i was in boot camp June-August of 2009. I am now stationed in Norfolk, Va.

My son left on 9/14/10 also, I got my phone call around 6.30pm. I bet our kids are in boot camp together. I'm trying to keep it together everyday. But I know he will be fine. Can't wait until the next call.

Know what you mean about keeping it together, it is tough... The lack of communication right now is so hard. Use to just picking up phone and calling or texting him...Sure they are doing well. My son had been a dep since January, he was ready and anxious to get started...Looking forward to our next call, and that first letter with his address..

wondering if my son is with your's. he left indiana on 9-15-10 around 12noon, got my phone call at 830pm that night. Miss him terribly. washed his laundry this weekend, which was a little hard for me Is that strange or what? Cleaned his room which I have been dying to do now for awhile now. Didn't really change much, just put stuff away, dusted,vacuum, made up the bed but it looks so different. I kept thinking that is will be all ready for him when he comes home. Not a boy's room anymore, but a man's. Made me a little sad. Haven't got my box yet. Was wondering how some of you got your's so quickly.????

No I dont think it is strange. The old saying what a difference a day makes, That sure is true from being my son to being in the military. Don't know how I got his box so quickly. I was somewhat surprised. Now hoping get a letter this week.

Hi there. I know your feelings. My son left on the 16th of Aug and I got that scripted call that he made to let me know he was there and ok. He sounded very tired. I didn't hear from him again by phone until last week and that was only for 5 mins. He said they were supposed to get 1 hour to make phone calls but the Div 336 wasn't pulling together and they didnt get it. He was really upset on that phone call it broke my heart to hear the sadness in his voice, so expect it. I just gave him alot of encouragement and told him how proud I was of him. He was really homesick. He will graduate from bootcamp in 3 weeks and I have only got the 2 calls. Hoping he will call soon. I do get letters from him but not sure if he has gotten the 1st letter from me yet. I keep sending them in hopes he has. It's tough on us all but I think its tougher on them... at least it is him. I can't wait to see him Oct 8th at graduation. I am told that I will be seeing a completely different young man... Keep praying for him to have strength and courage...
