First at all, thanks for the opportunity to be part of this group. It really makes me feel connected some how to my son even I have not received the so wanted phone call, (Not the 1st - 30 seconds phone call), but the one from where I will be able to hear from him and to know how is he doing. Thru this site I've learned from the first time where to look for his cell phone after I have received the “box” two weeks ago.

If you have a daughter/son in this division I would love to hear from you.  I read somewhere that after 2 1/2 weeks I should be receiving a phone call from my son and I am anxiously waiting from that phone call. If any one has received a phone call already from a son/daughter from this division would you mind sharing it?

We received 3 letters from our daughter on Thursday, 9-9-10, and a call the same day. Her letters started with low energy and obvious home sickness, but by the third one-spirits are lifting. She said her bunk mate is a girl named Skelly and they are becoming good friends. Is there someone with a Skelly out there???
Hi Williamstogo ..It is good to know that your daughter is doing well and that she is making good friends… I think good friends are a powerful support for all of them. I do want to remain positive at all the time, but my fear of him having a breakdown still there…. In the first and only letter I’ve received I perceived mixed signals…. And fortunately I did receive it after I talked to him…. On the phone he sounded very upbeat even though he has been fighting a cold. I don’t know if the mental challenge they went thru at the begging staying up for 48 hours straight is enough indication that they will be able to go thru the rest of the challenges…
My son went through the same ups and downs, but he was in the Marines. It is to be expected, I've been told. I stayed real positive and asked her alot of questions to keep her upbeat. After we hung up though, I lost it.
We just bought our airline tickets - Ouch! But we would pay anything to see the graduation and how the kids have changed. We are from Olympia, WA - and have never been to Chicago. I hope there are enough Starbucks for us!
Is there anyone out there with a daughter named sarah in 12/342? Molly said her bunk mate was Sarah, so I just was interested in talking to her mom. Got another letter yesterday but sure would like another call. Keeping all of you in my prayers.
YES!!! My daughter's name is Sarah! She said her bunkmate was from California but didn't tell me her name. I got that letter yesterday too! OMG, what if our daughters are bunkmates!!!! OH I wanna talk with you too! HUGS!
Just in case we can't find a Starbucks near by.. I am bringing my Colombian coffee, so you are more than welcome … You are all also staying at the SpringHill, right?... Actually this is the list I have so far..
Photo ID
Camera
Handkerchief
Coffee
lint brush,
tide pen,
Binoculars
Chopstick
hand lotion
towel to sit
umbrella
clothes for My Sailor to wear while at hotel
His lap-top/cell phone
We haven't decided on a hotel to stay at yet. I've been told that the city of Gurnee has some nice places, and is less than 10 miles away. I'll be spending time today looking for our hotel and some ideas on things to do for that Saturday. I could stay online for hours with all the postings on this site. :)
I was planning on bringing her laptop and cell, but from what I have read, they can't bring anything back to the base with them. I'll probably just bring her cell, and if she can't keep it we will bring it home and ship it to her when she can. She can check her email and stuff from our hotel, I believe.
3 more weekends!!! We can't wait!
Still looking for a Skelly - maybe her k is really an h and it's Shelly? LOL, sometimes her writing is difficult to read. It's my daughter, Amanda's bunk mate. There has to be more mom's out there of females in this division....
my dear willimastogo.. I hope you don't have any issues finding a hotel... I did my reservation the next day after we got the generic letter with the information....I also would like to see the rest of the mothers/fathers/gfls from S12D342 log in... my son told there was about 70+ sailors in his ship an so far I think only 5 are here... It will be nice to get to meet everyone before the M&G day....
I'm with you Yamile! I would like all the families of Div. 342 check in hers so we can at least introduce ourselves and chit chat before the M&G. Maybe they do not know about this website? We'll enjoy them anyway when we meet them!!!
Sunday, Sept 19 - No call, No letters this weekend -

And No other parents/wifes/glfs...Like you say Linda, Maybe they do not know about this website? ... then Maybe we need to start telling our kids whenever we have the chance to let them know about it?
Okay ship 12 Div.342. I heard from my son today and he said that this week is "Hell week" because they have a PT test, 2 inspections, and Test 2 (whatever that means), in addition to their drill assessment and apparently they are all practicing for as a unit. He wrote this on the 16th so they are counting down the days as well. He said that many of the recruits said "Only 29 days left" but my son said " Let me know when we have 2 weeks left"! I guess when it's that short a period of time, it's easier to see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Just wanted to keep you up to date. Hugs to all!
