Hi, y'all! I'm new here, up early to get ready to take our son back to his college town where he signed up for Navy. He's got three years of college under his belt, but decided he wants to get out and actually work in the "real world" and make some $$ to pay off his loans, then finish a degree with Uncle Sam's help!  So, here we go.  It's a long way from our Southern home to Great Lakes, MI, but I am excited he is taking this step, while a little concerned that he will be able to be all"SIR, YES SIR!" since he loves to argue and debate :). Looking forward to meeting other moms!

I've notice that a lot of people who's sailor went to boot camp at the beginning of the week are getting the 11/12 PIR date. That's great for your sailor. I am assuming that mine will get a PIR date of 11/19 because he didn't get there until Thursday 9/23. But you never know, I will have to wait and see when I get his letter. Maybe he'll get lucky.
Oh, make sure you buy insurance for your plane tickets. I'm pricing tickets right now for 198.00 per person flying from Los Angeles to Milwaukee on Air Tran. As soon as I know for sure, I'm buying those tickets and spending the extra $15.00 per ticket for insurance. It gets pretty pricey otherwise but with insurance I feel comfortable that if anything happens I won't lose too much money.
Be careful on that insurance I purchased it also for my son coming home from Great Lakes and the only way they let you cancel is if there's a death or medical emergency, just canceling they will not return your money with Priceline that's who I did mine thru.
That's good to know. I'm thinking of doing mine through the airline, but will definitely stay away from Priceline. Thanks for the info.
WOOHOO positive note from my son in his form letter!
Ship 11 DIV 369
PIR 11/12!!!!!
That's excellent. A week earlier than expected. I still think my sons will be 11/19 cause he didn't get there until Thursday but i am very happy for those who graduate earlier.

Hi my son just left for boot camp on the 22 of sept. He also had 3 years of collage under his belt, this was his choice and i am behind him but it is hard for me because this is his first time being so far away from home.Just pray i make it thru the eight weeks of boot camp. lol
nana, glad to know Dennis not the only one! Family and friends were saying, "How could you LET him not finish his degree?" Well, he was on his own dime and 22years old! I am proud of him for going into the military. That said, would love to see him take advantage of any educational opportunities he has. Did your son go to school nearby? Ours was already 5 hours away and we are sort of used to not seeing him a whole lot, since he worked during summers or took classes, but this not getting to at least talk to him is hard!
Hi he went to school here something he wanted to do. His box just came and my heart hit the floor what a hurtful feeling where do i go now? I am trying t stay strong but it is rally hard.
Have a good cry, and be proud that he's determined, and as they become sailors we learn to be Navy strong moms.
We are all hurting & missing our kids, while proud scared & apprehensive. A roller coaster of emotions!
Hi HeatherMc thank you a bunch. I just received his address today also,so now i can mail his goodies. And Savannahgal hope to c you there. My son is in Ship 11 Div 003
