Yup! - short for patticakes... nickname I've have for many years
RAOC! How sweet - I'm a sappy mess again!
Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Dear pmggggcccaaakkkess, Happy Birthday to YOU! I hope you had a wonderful weekend celebration! I haven't ordered Honor, Courage and Commitment yet! I want o read it as the weeks progress for Adam in BC. If it helps, my Adam wouldn't want to read it either. I tried to get him to watch a UTube Video on BC and he wanted nothing to do with it......wants to be surprised. He is going in thinking the worst; he doesn't want anyone to change that for him. If not has bad as he thinks he will be pleasantly surprised.
Yes, I Did, I have to say it was pretty cool having a birthday on 10/10/10, I also have a twin brother, so we got to spend the day together with he and his family. Thanks for the BD wishes.
Stephen and Adam seem to be on the same page. Me, I need to know everything. Its been almost a year since Steve came to us saying I want to meet with a Navy Recuiter, I feel that I have spent so much time researching, reading everything I could find, But hey thats just me. His 1st practice ASVAB, was in November, Meps in December, then again in January (he scored an 88 on his test and they wanted him to retake it again in January, this time scoring a 89 missing it by 1 point, Ughh He depped in on January 5th with ATC contract and a ship date of May 28th, we spend a month waiting to see if he would be accepted into the Nuke program, Come February we got the word that he was accepted, Actually he was down in Florida, and we had to rush to get him back home to sign his new contract, (this was also the time that he volunteers for Sub duty, he did'nt share that with me right away, took him a few weeks to tell me) and then his ship date was changed to October, I feel like its been such a long road getting to this point. I cant believe its finally here
Steve will head to the Carolina's for 18/24mos for School, then to BESS for 2months and then to the fleet, due to the extensive amount of school he's committed for 6 yrs. Hopefully they will cross paths in BC
Adam has a 6 year committment as well due to his schooling; I believe his A school is quite long - I want to say 30 months but I'm not sure if that is all at Groton.
Nancy,
Pink scarves sound great. I am down here in Al and not looking forward to GL in Dec either lol.
Jen's Birthday is Nov 1 and she is praying they don't notice it in her paperwork, as we will be celebrating it before she leaves. Poor kid she turns 21 and can't even celebrate with a drink lol.

Donna
Welcome and welcome back, Nancy, Donna, Aim. The scarfs are a great idea. I will be happy with any color but I will have to buy it. It would take me too long to knit. lol. Happy birthday patticakes. Love that name. lol. How cute is that bear? I have the "Honor, courage, and committment" and "Letters from Boot Camp" and I am going to order the "When the Eagles invade the nest". My son said he didn't understand the title. lol. Thought a nest was an enemy base. What??? Betsy, I hope your photos are up. I want to look. I looked at the weather in Great Lakes and it is very nice. I wonder how it will be in two weeks. I love seeing you all here. I wish my life would calm down and I could be here more often. I have been through relatives having surgery and staying with me, computer virus, having to buy a new computer because of it, and doing more work because someone at the office had to take sick leave for two months. Now, the new computer is doing well, the relatives are gone, and the person who had sick leave is back today. Yea. Hopefully my life will settle down and I can devote the next two and 1/2 months to my son. Everyone, have a good day. Kathy
Pink - bright fuscia pink or standard pink? If we can't knit can we purchase a scarve because this Chica can't knit a stitch!
Betsy....I just looked at your pictures I didn't see the cake. Your son is such a cutey-pie :o)
Hi everyone.....I love the scarf idea, so hot pink is the color? I don't knit so I will have to buy one, however I live in FL so our winter stuff doesn't come out for a while. I told Taylor that I was going to wear something crazy to PIR so he can find me, so I will be the lady in the bright orange outfit with a hot pink scarf on.....Just kidding or am I...hhhmmm :o)

My son is not studying his START book (I call it the Smart book), he won't watch any videos I've found (other than a PIR I found but I had to ask him probably 7 times to watch it with me) or read anything related, I guess he wants to be surprised...I on the other hand have to know everything there is to know. I think what makes me nervous about him not studying is I'm afraid he is going to be delayed in BC, but then i have to tell my self I can't want it more than him....it just makes me crazy because he has time now to read and understand rather then at BC when he is nervous and tired...uugghh.

Ok gotta run talk to you all soon....E
I think finding the same scarf at Target or Kohls is a great idea. Those stores are found everywhere right?

And Elizabeth, I so know what you are saying. I keep telling Ian that Knowledge is Power and that the more he knows the fewer, possibly unpleasant, surprises will await him. But you're SO right... we can't want things more than they do, although sometimes I think I know more. LOL

Here's my other concern: I talked with a co-worker today, and told her about PIR at GL and how I was concerned about the winter weather. She is from NY and lived in Chicago for a while. When I told her the dates and asked about the weather, she said it might be, "brutal." Her word. Do we know how to dress for this weather without freezing? I am from the Bay Area...lows are in the 40's in the middle of winter.

AND...where are we staying? I have been looking into places. Navy Lodge has no shuttle and everything I have read says it is so much easier to take one. The "official" meet and greet place is Ramada, but I have read awful things about cleanliness. I will keep looking into it. It would be fun to have the support of our group in one place..
