So  my boyfriend is graduating nov the 5th. He is going to go in the feild as an ET. A choo for him is right across the street from boot camp. "great lakes" He said he has a choice of being reclassified. What does that mean. Does he have like time off? Please someone define that for me! Thank you

It means that he may choose another rate (job) instead of ET. Did he mention if school for ET was full? Because sometimes that is when they are told about reclassification. Or maybe they look for "volunteers" to change their rates so that others can go into the school. There are few available available jobs in the Navy right now....they are very overmanned because of the bad economy. Most enlistees ever!
Well first let me say my son told me when I spoke to him gosh its almost two weeks ago that everyone in the division was meeting with the "classifier". Apparently this is just a normal part of Boot Camp. Sometimes they are offered different classifications and then they have to make that decision. My son was hoping to get reclassified to Damage Control. In his letter he said that they were told it was likely they could get reclassified and yet hardly any of them did. So, he may have even just been chatting in his letter. So, let's wait and see for the letter this week!! Hang in there. I know you and Sandi are worried, but we have to trust them to make the best decision. I know it's hard for me to do that with my son, I am so used to being involved...so I imagine it is for you too!!
Yes he did say it was full and he said that a 212 day school to take up to two years to complete. I dunno details were not that great.

I know it is so nerve wrecking. Ughhh i just want to know. lol But it is what it is ya know. :)
I happen to agree with paytonshana, I want to know to. But you all have been very encourageing to the both of us. I just want him to be able to stay at GL for schooling so we will have a wee bit more time with him on Grad weekend. He missed his classification meeting I think is what paytonshana said due to being in sick ward for 3 day's.
Yeah i think he did. But i wrote him yesterday saying no matter how much you miss all your family and what not, don't you think it would be best to get school over and done with? I mean since you are already focused and are in the swing of things.

Don't get me wrong if it means he has some down time= more time with his family, then heck yes!! But for the "greater good" get school done with. But that is just my opinion. :)
