Anyone else w/a son or daughter in the ship/div? I wonder what my son will be doing...

Hi Dodie...my daughter is ship 2 div 902 but PIR 11/24. I just found out she will be in the choir!
My son is not musical...hahahah. I've been doing some reading on 900 divisions & he could be doing rifles, flags, or staff support. I'll just have to wait until I get an actual letter.
I joined the 900 divisions group on N4Ms. There are some discussions posted which gave great info. I also googled 900 divisions, but the links were to the N4Ms site:) I'm waiting for his 1st real letter to read what he has to say...
Linda...sometimes they "volunteer" or get volunteered to be in the 900 division...some are "stick carriers" ...carry state flags at PIR, some work behind the scenes at PIR...opening doors, working concessions, parking cars, etc.

Often they pick those with higher ASVAB scores for 900 divisions as well
Hello Dodie,
I had to chuckle when I read your post because I said the same thing about my son. He does not play an instrument and cannot sing, so I think he will probably carry a flag too. I also googled 900 division to see what that meant. Congrats to your son! Rebecca
Linda here is the group for 900 divsions http://www.navyformoms.com/group/900sdivisionsailors
I just got my form letter Saturday. My son Matt's Ship 2, Div. 903. And he has no musical ability whatsoever. I'll have to look that the 900's group. Thanks for that info. I'm anxious to get a real letter!
Aggie08Mom, It was great to receive my son's form letter w/his handwriting. I think I have read his note at least 20 times:) I can't wait to get a real letter. Have patience as I have read that our kids may not have a lot of time to write because they're in a push division w/all of the bootcamp responsibilities as well as their additional 900 division tasks.
Dodie, I know patience is what I need right now. I know what you mean about seeing his actual handwriting. My Matt wrote a little note on the inside flap of his box, so I at least had that. Is your Matt's PIR Dec. 3, or is it 11/24? I don't understand this push division stuff. I don't understand any of it actually.
Their division didn't fill up til probably last week. Because of that, they'll have to complete all of the bootcamp stuff in roughly 7 1/2 wks instead of the usual 8-9 wks. In addition, they will have extra training for their 900 division tasks. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Dodie. It definitely helps. Any info helps. So what do they do while they're waiting for their division to fill up, do you know? I just get more and more worried the more I learn. I keep thinking, can he do it? I guess he can, or they wouldn't have assigned him to a 900 division.
Aggie, I'm not too worried about my son...no news is good news. I've read that they look for recruits w/higher ASVAB scores that don't require as much remedial work w/the swim test or PT. I'm in agreement that he wouldn't have been put in a 900 division if they didn't think he could do it.
