Lori, lol, My son had the same problem with the watch barely fitting. I felt the same way last night, surreal. Those big hugs are the best. I am so glad you are having a good night. Hugs. Kathy
Well we took Jordan up to the recruiter's office at 3:00 and they pulled out at about 3:15. There were alot of tears from not just me but also my husband and Jordan. He is very nervous. Hasn't slept much at all for the last several nights. He wanted to go to church this morning which just about floored me. He NEVER wants to go to church. We are driving to MEPS tomorrow to see him off and I'm sure there will be many more tears but we want him to know that we support him and are behind him 100%. Went shopping a little this evening to get my mind off of it. Like one of the other moms said, my husband is having a really hard time. And I don't know about you ladies but seeing my husband cry just sends me over the deep end and the ugly cries begin. Anyway, we made it through today and I need to get to bed to recharge for tomorrow. Try to keep your chin up and I'll be praying for all of us.
I am so restless tonight. I started reading "Honor, Courage, Commitment" book. Since it is arranged like the weeks of boot camp I am going to read just the week they are there ect. I am now up to the recruits arriving at bootcamp. I will read that tomorrow night. Earlier I watched all four bootcamp videos. Of course I cried. I think I am going to start his first letter now. Hugs to all. Kathy
To all of you: Oh My Gosh!! I haven't had a minute to get here today and you ladies have had a busy day!! So much to respond to that this will just be general. First of all... ((HUGS)) to all of you who had your kids depart today and more ((HUGS)) for those who have early departures tomorrow.

We are all on the cusp of a new leg of this journey...if not already on it. Lots of emotions all over the place, but what I notice most coming through in all of your posts, loud and strong, is the committment to be there for your kids by being informed, supportive, and involved. And isn't THAT what being a parent is all about? I am so grateful for all of your support, and the sharing of your experiences as your children take off is absolutely inspiring!!

We had Ian's party today and I could not have asked for a better day for him. Family all showed up and we cooked and ate. The kids played pool, talked, went for a walk and just spent time together. And we got PICTURES for the wallet. We took some really nice pictures for our Christmas card, then printed them out, and laminated them right then for the wallet. It was interesting as I thought I was more concerned about him having pictures than he was, but he was concerned that they all fit into the wallet and particular about which ones he took. I still need to type up a neat note with a quotation. Then they all went over to his sister's house to see the b-in-law and spend more time together. I WAS a little disappointed, but I know that I will get to see him Tuesday and Wednesday for some of each day.

I am going to keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers as this week proceeds. I will also check in here to see how you are all weathering the changes and for my own moral support!! If not for all of you, I would think that I was insane. So happy to know it is all part of a process.
Thinking of you all,
Nancy
Betsy, I still have some last minute things to give to Ian for his wallet! So busy yesterday and today'l that I haven't gotten the phone card OR the stamps! But
Adam's glasses are sure to be missed! Lol I will get Ian's stuff to him on Tuesday!
Nancy
Have a great day at MEPS tomorrow!
Nancy, It sounds like you had a wonderful day and I am happy for you. Thank you for your support and prayers and we will be offering the same for you as Ian begins his journey. Hugs and prayers. Kathy
It sounds like you had a really good night, that is great that Adam has should I say the (future brother in law maybe) support. lol. Good luck today

Donna
Hi Betsy, It sounds like your dinner was wonderful. I had to smile when you mentioned Adam texting you because that is what Brandon loves to do more than talking on the phone. I am doing better than I expected I would. I have spells of crying but I am trying not to think too much. I can't seem to stay away from here though. It seems to be like a life line to my son, if you know what I mean. I want you to tell us all about the swearing in and the airport tomorrow if you can. I will say one thing, I have never been more proud of our sons and daughters then I am right now. His dad is doing well and we talked a lot tonight about how much our son wants this. I am glad you mentioned your husband so I could make sure mine was ok. I will be thinking good thoughts and praying for your family and everyone with kids leaving tomorrow. By the way, my son never got to sleep last night. I think he was just too excited or anxious. Hugs, Kathy
Hello everyone today is the day that Joseph travels to MEPS with his recruiter. He has to be at the recruiter’s office at 2pm. He asked me to go with him to the recruiter. We already purchased his pocket bible, dictionary, and only need to get his calling card(s), simple (nondecorative) watch, stamps, and go back over his envelope to make certain he packed all of his paperwork. I write a poem to place in his bible so he will find it in bootcamp and not before. My husband, Joseph’s wife, my daughter and I are leaving for the hotel in Richmond about 5pm today so we can at least have dinner with him tonight and spend some time with him before his curfew. I will try to get a few pictures (especially of his 2 year old daughter) made into wallet size before we head to the recruiter’s office.

It is indeed wonderful to know that I’m not alone. Thanks to everyone for your support and words of wisdom. I am assuming that the hardest time for us will be after the initial phone that our child arrived to bootcamp and waiting for our first letter to arrive. Once the letters start arriving and we can write back, we will feel relief and a sense of connection. Until then, I plan to write my letters everyday, starting today so when I get his official address, I can place them all in the mail. I did get a couple of boxes of blank cards so I can send them if my day is too hectic to write a long letter. But I will write him every single day of his bootcamp.

My day is just beginning, congratulations to everyone for raising such fine young men and women and remember, as parents, we can do this, and we will do this together! Many, many hugs and kisses to our wonderful children!

Much love to all and again, thank you all so very much for your support!

Kim
Hi Kim, It sounds like all your ducks are in a row and Joseph is ready to go. Except for missing my son the second I left the recruiters office I was so glad I didn't have to worry any more about what he should be taking and if we got it all. lol. Hugs and love to you and we will all be here for you. Kathy
Kathy, thank you so much. It seems no matter how young or old our little men are, we still worry. I have 2 children, my daughter is 35 and Joseph is 25 and I thank God my daugher is going with me, she will be my strength today and tomorrow. Again, thank you so very much!

I'm trying to get dressed, but it is so hard. And many hugs to you as well!

Kim
Kim, what do you know. Brandon is 25 too and also my baby. Kathy
