My husband and I just got married july 2010 and I thought that was going to be a hurdle in my husband joining the navy but we just got hit with the biggest hurdle yet. I am 12 weeks pregnant, which wwe are excited abt, but we are both nervous. My husband leaves for great lakes Nov.9th. He is worried about leaving me. I am worried about health care and how it will affect me being covered. I am stressing about not being settled in time before I'm due in may. I could use a lot of advice as I'm freaking out! Thanks

Ok, take a deep breath. You will have insurance as soon as he is in boot camp. Contact is recruiter and tell them. They will be able to help you get the form to get an id while he is gone. You will be in SC well before May,, and its a good hospital there. I delivered my son in SC. Basically you need to get an id and on tricare, the recruiter can help with that. As soon as you have an id you can go see the dr depending on where you live now you will be seen on base or by a civilian dr. When you move to SC you can be seen by the Navy Drs or opt into tricare standard and see a civilian dr there too. However you will have some out of pocket expenses if you go standard. If you have any questions you can message me and I can try to help you with answers.
Don't fret about the health insurance. =] After he leaves for bootcamp, within a few weeks, ( 3,prob at the most ) you will get a form in the mail from the Navy to go get your Military I.D. made, and then you can start using a dr and it be covered by TriCare then. I just use my local health care center in town since we haven't got our first duty station yet, and they accept TriCare.. The I.D. is your insurance card.. I got my form in the mail during my husbands 3rd week at boot. Where we lived, there was no Navy base, or any military base around there, so I just went to an old Fort that had been shut down, (luckily the buliding that done the I.D.'s were still opened ) and had my done there.. It's easy, and the insurance is GREAT =] Congrats on the pregnancy btw! Kids are such a joy.. I have a 4 year old , and can't wait for #2, whenever that will be =] LoL..
