I thought it would be nice to start a discussion for our children leaving the week of October 25th 2010.  Welcome everyone.  Kathy

Penny, it sounds like you had a wonderful day. I bet you are tired but wow you were able to do and see so much. I am glad that so many people respect our young recruits. That must have made you feel so proud. So he already landed in Great Lakes so you must be getting your call fairly soon. I was also glad to get the ball rolling but I didn't feel that way until he left. Now I just want PIR to be tomorrow. Hugs. Kathy
Yeah, it was such a blessing to be close enough to spend today with them. They were so cute in the USO room...watching Jeopardy and calling out answers, then looking all shy when they would get the answers right and everyone would oooh and ahhh! And then America's Funniest Home videos...you should have heard them giggle! I will never forget today!
The USO was too far away for our boys to get to easily. They would have had to go outside the security area and far away from their hate. Unfortunate setup, was your different? I told the kids about it, but they were worried about getting on the plane on time.

I am so glad your kids had a better experience with that airport. It IS easier to have them off, but anxious for tomorrow and information!
Nancy
oops...typed this on my phone...far away from their GATE!!!
Ahhh that's so sweet! Susan
Penny - I'm so glad things went well. How exciting to see him off on his flight :) I'm sure you loved spending that time with him. My D sent me a text saying how nice the USO room was, but I had no idea it was that nice. I think it's great that our kids experienced that before leaving. Hopefully when things are tough they will remember that it's worth it and that they are truly hero's for serving our country. I hope you get your call soon! It will be such a relief for you to hear his voice. I know it was for me :) Susan
The USO room was all volunteers and they really made these boys feel special...and what made me feel even more proud was how the boys thanked them for everything as they were leaving! The ladies just beamed!
Yes, Penny, you are now a boot camp mom. I still am in disbelief that he is no longer a depper. He was one for so long. I think part of my excitement is that he is finally on his way to being a U.S. Sailor. I just keep praying that they all stay healthy and strong in body and spirit. By the way, I think there are at least 6 divisions and maybe more. I believe it will start at 19 and my son's is 24. Susans son is 22. But I am hopeful we will all be in the same PIR. I look forward to your "I am here" call. Hugs. Kathy
Kathy - Did you notice the next available date for PIR for the next divisions??? Susan
Susan, I went to the place where they show the PIR dates but they didn't have anything listed after 12-3-10. We probably have to wait for a few days or get the form letter. That was the same place they show the different division numbers and it appeared 19 was the next number so I would think that would be the next beginning number for our PIR. I just hope their are more than 5 divisions or I could be cut off to the next week. I will not think that way. lol. Hugs. Kathy
How do you know all that by now? They've only been gone a day or two?
Awwwww; what a nice day - you did so well. You won't forget this day ever. A never hit the USO room as he traveled by van. With Tuesday's weather that was probably best. People are really good about extending their thanks to those who serve. I tell you what, I'll never miss an opportunity to thank someone in the military when I see them. You emotions do kind of spiral up on the day of departure; mixed emotions and exhaustion. It will take you 2 days to regroup and get ready for this next phase. So rest your weary head, once you get the call, get some overdo rest. Good Job and congratulations, you are a boot camp mom.
