Hi Tysmom,
I am so glad to hear that PIR should be on 12/17; the Christmas Eve date didn't seem right. Thanks for asking Tyler's recruiter. I was hoping Derek could get home for the holidays before he heads off to power school. I heard too that a lot of offices and schools are on "holiday stand down". So, maybe our information is correct.
I didn't know that going to MEPS was an option. We were just told what time to be at the recruiting station because they were taking a shuttle to MEPS. Sounds like you had some great "quality time" together.
I bet Derek and Tyle know each other, or if not, they will very soon. Hope to get his address soon. We have letters ready to go. I liked someone's idea of printing out his facebook page and sending that along once a week or so. Hearing from mom and dad is one thing; friends is another.
Take care.
Barb
How cool to talk to people who all have sons in the same program. My son has been away from home for five years already. I still miss him though, it is strange. We have been sending him a bunch of cards. Hopefully, he is actually getting them.
Hi again! Yes, Tyler's recruiter told us that the military had a mandatory two week off period during that time and from everything I have read and seen on it, our information is accurate. Tyler's recruiter has been great answering all momma's questions. lol (with the right ones)!
His recruiter would have taken him to MEPS but he knew from day one I intended to go to the gate of the plane with him so I don't think he even considered interfering in my plan! LOL
Call your son's recruiter and ask for Derek's address. Tyler flew out on Tuesday and the recruiter gave me his mailing address on Friday. I had started writing two days before he left (mailed three that Friday) and have written every day since!
Tyler changed his status on his Facebook so no one could send him messages. He said he wouldn't see them until he got back and then it wouldn't matter anyway. LOL He's like that though so I wasn't surprised. I like the idea of printing that for them though.
Thanks for the message! You hang in there! We have to get through this too!
Your Kentucky friend, Tys mom Angela
yes my son left on the 26th.How are you doing with that? What is his job going to be?
I am doing much better. Monday was the hardest - he left for MEPS. Tuesday was better because he was excited to finally getting things moving. He talked to dad from the airport, I got text messages throughout the day. I am soooo glad I read on this website about what to expect, otherwise that phone call home would have been horrible. It was like he was reading a script but I know he was tired and didn't have much time to talk. Miss him lots but know he's doing the right thin. How are you doing?
Hello everyone my son arrived in chicago at about 8pm last night and I got "the call" at about 12:30am this morning. Something came over me that I've never felt before and I've been pretty upset since then. I know things will get better for me and I know that he's gonna do great; i just need to get through this initial phase. Any advice?
Hi oknavymom71! My son left on Tuesday and my tears and worries started long before that! I have to tell you something. I think you're selling you and your son short! I mean that in a very kind way! I was so worried...and still am about Ty too, but WE, their momma's know them better than anyone, and WE know they can do this! They're going to do better than just doing this too, they are going to be great! And if it takes you opening your mouth and saying that out loud you do it! It will make YOU feel better! Our baby boys are young men who made a very honorable decision and by proxy we've been brought in to experience this process with them. But I wouldn't want it any other way, and I don't think for even one second you would either. :)
I've cried my tears....still do and will until I see him and then I'll start crying all over again....but I am going to smile and be happy for him...and them....because it's something not everyone can do or something every one will do. I smile simply because he's MY son and he's turned out great! I am truly his biggest fan!!! You take pride in that alone! This is also your time to shine too! You've done very good mom and that son of yours is going to be one of America's finest so SMILE and ENJOY!!! Hats off to our sailors!!!!
My son left on the 26th also. This site is amazing without it I would prolly really need a doctor!!It has been such a help for me.I really don't have any kind of "family" support so right now everyone on here is my "family!!Thanks to all of you.
Dear TysMom,
We just got a CALL! Derek said that his division is doing so well that they might get to call once per week!!! He sounded tired but really likes it so far. They are doing a lot of marching and he has a new running buddy. We have his address now. He said that they are going to work really hard so they can PIR on 12/17. He's in Div 906 on the Reuben James. Maybe Tyler is too. I hope you get a call too!
I bet they know each other. Have you talked to him yet? I was kinda hoping he'd get a phone call today too. but that's probably a lot to ask.
