Elizabeth - Oh wow! A phone call. I am so happy for you! That's so amazing I think to get a call this early :) Susan
When I got the Ship and Division number today, I also found out the Ship Name : Uss Hopper. The USS HOPPER is the 20th ARLEIGH BURKE class guided missile destroyer and the only surface combatant in the Navy named after a woman (LOL, Love It!) - Her name is Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (aka, Amazing Grace) she served from 1943 to 1986 and was a pioneer in the field of computer programming. At the point of her retirement she was the oldest officer in the USN. She passed at the age of 85 in 1992 and was laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington. look her up on wikipedia, you have to see her naval photo, what a sweetheart, I smile just thinking of the picture. She lived an amazing life and and Im so proud my Son will always has this connection to her.
All I was told was the USS Hopper, the rest of the research I did myself, i love the Flag too, It has a Lion on it which is the symbol of strength and courage, I posted it on my page with my photos
How cool - thanks for sharing; I wonder if your S has met my A yet!
I hope they have - we will need to know each other last names to make sure.
Thank you, Patti, now I know B's ship. Her story is so interesting and I will read about her online. A pioneer in computer programming. I am also proud that B will have this connection. K
Oh Patti, that is so cool! Thank you so much for sharing that story. I am sitting here this morning crying, and missing my boy. But knowing the story of ship is turning my tears into happy tears :) Susan
Hello Everyone, Received a call from S. Was so surprised had to take a double take at the caller ID. Realized the number was an IL exchange. He sounded so good...more grown up. He is doing well and getting used to the schedule. Guys are great, food, what he can remember of it, is OK, in the few minutes they get to eat it. I asked how he got the 20 minute call, said he earned it. Wow! He is proud of what he has already done and feels good. Got his address and will be sending off the letters tomorrow. Love to you all and see you on the other sites too.
I don't understand most of this. I'm just real glad he is moving forward. His ASVAB score was high. Always knew he was smart. Just needed to find the one thing that would excite him and get him to excel. Maybe this Navy thing is where he will find himself. Hugs!
Thanks! RAOC!!!!
Phoebe-how absolutely wonderful. You must be so proud! and WOW a 20 minute call seems incredibly long!! Nice to know they can earn rewards!! So happy for you!! I bet it makes you feel better to know that he is OK and doing so well, you'll sleep better tonight!
Nancy
I got my box today. Clothes were wadded up in a ball and stuffed in her backpack. I was loooking for a note or something that she might have left in her backpack for me, but no such luck.
