We got a phone call last week..I guess the halfway phone call. I would have missed it if it hadn't been for this site. They said to expect a call from an 847 area code. He said he goes sometime Saturday to O'Hare and we can meet him at the airport and wait with him while he gets ready to fly out.
When they enlist they usually tell them where there school is. For sub training it is only in Groton. if they don't have a spot in the school then the grads stay in GL until they can go to their school. I think this is the hardest week for some reason..especially after hearing their voice and then you realize its still a month to go!! My younger son got a letter yesterday and it was more upbeat. I think they are settling in now and of course the weapons training this week is more interesting than learning how to make a bed
My son is in SHIP 09 DIV 015 and will go to Groton after PIR. I'm trying to just be grateful for the time we will have for the rest of the day on 12/3!

Nuke school is in Charleston SC..eight months and then they decide subs or aircraft, Only reason I know is that my son originall signed up for that job and then wanted to go quicker so he switched to sonar tech on subs. Hope that helps but just ask in your next letter if he is Grad N Go..that means they leave sometime during the weekend after PIR. Have a great night!
Hi. My son is Ship 02 Div 03, and I know he is going to Groton, CT after graduation on 12/3. I had received a call from him last week (my first one!!) and he thought he would be available all weekend. Does anyone know if the ones headed for Groton go out earlier?
I'm not sure if they leave early Sunday or late Saturday. My son called last week too and thought they left sometime Sat night. Where are you staying when you come in for PIR?.
I haven't booked anything yet so I'm not sure... I would like to know what their schedule is to go to Groton so I'll know whether or not to fly back on Sat night or on Sun.
I know what you mean. We're thinking about late Saturday flight back but would love to know for sure. Not sure how we get that information. I was thinking about calling the PR office. Where are you guys flying in from? We are coming in from DC
We'll be coming from NH. I have written to my son to ask him if he'll find out, but hard to know if/when will get reply for that. Have you found a place to stay while out there? I really need to start looking into the details soon. :)
We are staying at the courtyard marriott. They have a special room rate for graduation. Also they have a shuttl eeto the PIR ..even though we are renting a car I was told the shuttle was easier. Hope to meet you there
He told me in his phone call last week that he would leave sometime Saturday afternoon but we are delaying making plane reservations until we get that for sure..because that will determine if we stay over Sat night
