Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I know we are all overjoyed about our sailors coming home after PIR so let's get all of our questions answered here.

 

Ma'am,

 

Recruits graduating Dec. 17 & 22 will be granted leave and will be able to travel home.  Those graduating Dec. 17 will have their leave expire on Dec. 28.  Recruits graduating Dec. 22 will be granted leave that will expire Jan. 2.  Recruits are responsible for paying their own way from RTC to their home and then pay for their way from home to their next command for A School.  Once they are at their next command, they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs.

Traveling home the Sailors will be required to wear their uniforms because they have not phased in at A School.  A letter will be given letting them know what is allowed and not allowed while on Leave.  They cannot drive a car or consume alcoholic beverages while on Leave.

 

Our Sailors will not be allowed to bring their cars to A School.

Betsy: When you called the PAO office today, did you ask them about purchasing the tickets? In regard to what NDG posted above this one.
Are they allowed to have cars at A school? Because if they can, we can drive my daughter back here (Texas) after PIR and then she can drive to Pensacola and arrive on the 27th.
Hi Jewel, I am not sure about a car but I do know they can't leave base until they have phased out and this takes about 3 weeks. Also they may need permission to have a car. It might be better to wait on the car. My son also has a car waiting for him. If you go to the group that is about his school they should be able to help you with the car situation. Should NOT travel common carrier? Or should not travel common carrier on tickets purchased by.....?
If my son decides to fly back he and I can get flights on the same plane, correct?

Yes, under these circumstances, your son can travel home with you on the same airline. That is a general letter, but with visits home for the holiday, I was told by Public Affairs Office that that does not apply here.

If they take the full leave time, they'll be 5 days in the hole on leave when they report to A school. If they decide to report to A school right away, they will not be able to then take leave because there will be no one there to process them out.
I'm not sure that the regulation on the form letter would apply for this time. They are on stand down at BC, which I'm sure only happens during the Christmas holiday. When I called the Public Affairs Office this morning, she told me that we would have to get them home and back to A school. We couldn't do that if they can't travel common airlines? I will call again in the morning and see if that statement doesn't apply to our recruits situation.

Sharon, that is why the suggestion was made to have them try to work at their recruiting office. If they do, they can save some of their leave time.
His recruiter is in Texas. I live in Virginia. His A School is in Virginia. My ex was planning to drive to Great Lakes, and then to Virginia to visit our other two kids. My suggestion to him was that if this is how it's going to be for T, then maybe on Friday, Brian and I get to spend the day with T, and then on Saturday, he takes T on a road trip, first to Ohio to visit his grandparents (my ex's folks) and then to Virginia to see his siblings, and then he can take him to Dam Neck, which is just 2 and a half hours away from my house. This would maybe take up only three or four days of leave, and he can then report to A School. My ex, who is former Navy, said that he'd be required to work about two hours a day, but the rest of the time would be liberty. So with the short drive to Dam Neck, I could visit him during the day, we could check out VA Beach, etc., and he wouldn't be in the hole at all.

Unless -- can he work at ANY recruiter's station, or just the one that recruited him?
Hi Sharon, I am not positive but I believe they could work at any recruiting office. I would call the office and check. Just let them know the situation. Have a good day. K
HI, Anti M here, joining just long enough for a comment. Working at the recruiter is called RAP (recruiter assistance program). It is only for their hometown recruiter, and only for students who are between A school and their first command.

Also, no on the car at A school. They must have permission and the school commands don't give it out lightly. They don't need it for the most part.

The A schools shut down over the holidays, so they might make him take the full two weeks. I am also ex-Navy and the policies at the A schools have changed a great deal. Be flexible (but you knew that)

May I suggest that if you know where your sailor will be attending A school, that you join that group. I can be found in the Great Lakes A school group, AECF group, or Japan moms.
