I know we are all overjoyed about our sailors coming home after PIR so let's get all of our questions answered here.

Ma'am,

Recruits graduating Dec. 17 & 22 will be granted leave and will be able to travel home.  Those graduating Dec. 17 will have their leave expire on Dec. 28.  Recruits graduating Dec. 22 will be granted leave that will expire Jan. 2.  Recruits are responsible for paying their own way from RTC to their home and then pay for their way from home to their next command for A School.  Once they are at their next command, they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs.

Respectfully,

Recruit Training command

Traveling home the Sailors will be required to wear their uniforms because they have not phased in at A School.  A letter will be given letting them know what is allowed and not allowed while on Leave.  They cannot drive a car or consume alcoholic beverages while on Leave.

Our Sailors will not be allowed to bring their cars to A School.

This is a work in progress and I will try to answer questions as they become available to me.

Have a good day.  Kathy

Thank you, Anti M, we always appreciate the support and information you give us. So hometown recruiting office for working and no cars at A school. I will add the information at the top. Have a good day. K
Ani M,

Thank you so much for this information. I will check out the A school pages.

I was aware that they could work at the recruiting station, but now I am waiting to hear back from my son's recruiter, because he said that their station is closed for the week during Christmas. :( I hope they have something my son can do to save some of his leave days.

Betsy
Betsy, I think what Anti M said about working at the recruiter's station is that they can only do it between A School and first duty station. So it sounds like maybe they can't do it between PIR and A School? Worth asking your recruiter about...
Thanks, Dianne, I wasn't aware that they could only do it then. My son's recruiter is checking with his Chief on it for me, so I will let you know what he says.

Betsy
Let me know because I specifically remember D's recruiter saying he could work there between BC and A school. Of course we know that it's not always good information. Susan
Susan,

As soon as I hear something, I will let you know. I thought I was told that too, but it was on here somewhere.

Betsy
Betsy,

LOL It might have been me that told you :) Susan
I believe it is Jan 2nd but let me go look up betsy's post. K
According to Jessica's post yesterday the recruits need to be at A School by 1-2-11 for the 12-22-10 PIR. This date is the last day of leave. K
For the Dec. 22, PIR they have to report back on Jan. 2, this is true.

As far as traveling on a common airline is concerned, no word yet. I called the Public Affairs Office this morning and she said asked me if it said anything about Christmas, and I told her that it did not. She said that thinks the statement in the form letter is probably just is a general statement, but probably wouldn't apply at this time. But she is looking into that and we should know something by next week. I also asked if they could travel in civilian clothes and she is going to check that too. I was worried about them being on a commercial airline in uniform. They were having a graduation today, so she was not in the office to be able to check today.

They can leave, on the day of PIR, after graduation, but will be required to check out first.

The e-mail for the Public Affairs Office is RTC.PAO@tNAVY.MIL, in case there are anymore questions that you all have, that I might not have thought to ask.

Betsy
Thank you Betsy, you have been busy this morning. I didn't think about wearing civies. I know that once they get to A school they have to phase out to wear civies. I would think they would have to wear their uniform but I am so glad you asked and she is finding out. We sure don't want to make any mistakes. lol. That was interesting what AntiM said about being able to work only for their hometown recruiters. I need to add that to the top here as well as the info on the uniforms when we get it. Hugs. K
In the Great Lakes group, it has been confirmed they must travel in uniform if they are in liberty phase one (they are). This is because they have not earned their civilian clothes privileges yet (although they may wear them at home). Since they are traveling within the continental US on a domestic flight, this is actually an advantage not a danger. People will be extra nice to them in most cases.

It is "phase up", LOL, not out.

Your new sailor will be given a list of rules. My nephew came home for his father's funeral in phase one, he was not allowed to drive a car or drink alcoholic beverages. Whatever they do, do NOT let them get a DUI on leave. They could lose their school over that.

(I have to keep joining to reply, I am not staying with the group, and one reason is the uber-annoying automatic music player)
