I know we are all overjoyed about our sailors coming home after PIR so let's get all of our questions answered here.

Ma'am,

Recruits graduating Dec. 17 & 22 will be granted leave and will be able to travel home.  Those graduating Dec. 17 will have their leave expire on Dec. 28.  Recruits graduating Dec. 22 will be granted leave that will expire Jan. 2.  Recruits are responsible for paying their own way from RTC to their home and then pay for their way from home to their next command for A School.  Once they are at their next command, they may request to be reimbursed for part of the travel costs.

Respectfully,

Recruit Training command

Traveling home the Sailors will be required to wear their uniforms because they have not phased in at A School.  A letter will be given letting them know what is allowed and not allowed while on Leave.  They cannot drive a car or consume alcoholic beverages while on Leave.

Our Sailors will not be allowed to bring their cars to A School.

This is a work in progress and I will try to answer questions as they become available to me.

Have a good day.  Kathy

Just make sure they match!

Sailors earn their leave days at 2.5 each month. By the end of BC, they will have roughly five days on the books. Two weeks then puts them in the hole about nine or ten days, depending on when they check in or out. The length of their school will determine how much leave they will earn by the time they graduate. e aware almost every school has a week of indoc (introduction to the base and school policies), sometimes a technical pre-training for some rates, and holds awaiting a class. Whatever amount of time you think their school will be, it will be longer, I promise. Once they check into A school, you can estimate how much leave they will get before reporting to their first command. C school after A school is yet another factor for some rates.

Liberty is normal time off, such as evenings, weekends and holidays when they do not have duty. Leave and liberty cannot be combined, so yes, the holiday and weekend during leave counts as leave days, not liberty. Liberty can be taken away in A school, one reason for them to stay on good behavior!

Phase one is roughly two weeks, they have to test to phase up to two. They have to have liberty buddies, so some GFs may be disappointed in romantic weekend getaways. The duty rotation is usually four days, so don't plan on visits until your sailor knows his duty rotation after checking into A school. It sucks to make plans and have them not be able to leave base!
Thank you Anti M.

That information will come in handy. We appreciate your help.

Anti M,
I was hoping my son could come home w/ us after PIR, but after reading through all the discusion I'm getting the impression that may not be the best thing to do if he wants leave after A school. Would he just have to stay @ GL for Christmas then?

jfarmship02div904
jfarm,

Your son will probably tell you what he wants to do. I just got a phone call from my son and he does want to come home for Christmas. He said that he isn't worried about using the leave time and realizes that it will take awhile to accumulate again. I would just wait to see what your son decides.

((hugs))

Betsy
A lot depends on his rate and length of school, and where the school is. He'll be phase one, so if he chooses to stay at school, he won't even be able to leave base. On the plus side, the Christmas meal is pretty alright at most chow halls.
thanks or the info, appreciated!!!!

When will we find out were the A school will be???
Hi Dot mom, It will depend on what your recruits rating(job) is. What is his rating? By the way it is nice to meet you. K
Yes, your child should have an idea of where they are going to A school.

Good to meet you on here.

Betsy
If my son (graduates 12/17) doesn't have to be at A school until the 28th, does that mean he can ride home w/ us following graduation? Then I have to see about getting him a flight to school. I think I sound dumb asking this, but I am confused by all the Navy lingo & all the things I'm trying to soak in & learn.
Yes, we have been informed that they can come home after PIR. They will have to use their leave time to do that, though. You will have to get them to A school, but if you save your receipts, they can file a claim for reimbursement when they get to their A school.

Betsy
Thanks. I'm guessing they only have a certain amount of leave time, is this per year?
