I stole this discussion.. lol.

Our Sailors will come home for the HOLIDAYS! woot woot! So... I bet that makes all of us happy but them wondering.. How are we going to transport them? Do we have to pay? Will they get reinbursed? What if I am driving? And many more questions.. and ladies.. I don't know frankly all the answers to those questions and that is where this discussion comes in play. I will tell you what I have been told from Jonathons recruiter and you can add what information you know or what questions you might have..

From my understanding at this time.. our recruits will be eligible to go home after graduation but have to report to their A schools on the 2nd of Jan.

Jonathon called me this morning... He said that there are 10 days after graduation that he can take but he will have only earned 5 in the 2 month period of them being there. He has a choice to take the 10 day leave BUT if he does he is 5 days in the hole and those 5 days will be subtracted from the 10 he gets after A school to move. So he would only have 5 days after A school to come home visit and move to his station. That seems a little low. With a family and wanting to visit everyone and move 5 days seems a little low so Jon brought this idea up of what he is planning.... They get Liberty after Graduation for the weekend.. can leave everyday but have to return everynight at cerfew. Then come Mon or Sun they can leave to report to their A school or come home.. Jon doesnt know the details for sure on it all but that is what he is wanting to do if it pans out.
He also said being Christmas weekend he might have Liberty for all weekend and have to report back Sunday night but he has to stay in a so many mile range of the base.
Mary thankk you so much. Joseph told me today in hs call that he only has 5 days leave and didn't have time to explain, but asked me to grant him his Christmas present early by paying for his flight home and then to "A" school as he has to be at A school in Mississippi on the 28th. Now it makes sense why he said he only had 5 days so he wouldn't be in the hole for the additional unearned 5. Kim
Just thought I'd add to this:
My husband told me that he is "grad n go". This means he can leave with me to come home ASAP rather than having to wait.
Hi ladies,
I got a call this AM too. So grad n go means they can leave immediately? I wasn't sure and didn't clarify during the phone call
Ok this might be something to look into also, His recruiter said that if they report to them on leave that they can check in and work with them a few hours a day and get up to 3 days credit on their leave.
I specifically asked about this as I had read about it here, and he said NO, that only works after they have graduated from A school. So they will be in the hole if they take all 10 days. That is according to the RDCs
Everyone who PIRS on the 22nd will be a grad n go... but Jonathon is not wanting to use his unearned days so he has found a way around it by using the liberty weekend and I stay in chicago and then coming home on Monday for 5 days. It will cost more cause we would be staying in a hotel but it gives us the most days together without going days in the hole. I love my husbands smart thinking.
That is great thinking on his part Mary. Won't work for our family :-( , but with only a couple of you it is a great idea!! Nice talking to you on the chat this AM.
I think you answered my question! So they still get 10 days, just 5 will be liberty, ad 5 will be leave, so that they won't be ' in the hole'. Is this right? I'm going to the graduation, then he has family in Kenosha, so we are going to stay with them till January 2nd. I like your idea though, 5 days liberty with family in Kenosha, then flying back for 5 days. But we live in Oregon, so maybe it wouldn't have been worth it for him to come back just for 5 days? Anyways, i already bought my ticket for the 19th- 2nd, so I guess its too late now..
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about reporting to A school. My son is coming home for 5 days and then heading there. Will they pick him up from the airport? Are they shut down until the 2nd of January? Hopefully his paperwork is in order. I am scheduling our flight for the evening to make sure.
hey Mary, thats so smart of your husband thinking about that idea! but anyway, they graduate Wednesday right? and i thought liberty weekend is just gonna be on fri, sat, sun. what about on thurs what is he gonna do? and from thurs-sun are they gonna be stayin in their ship, which i thought would be shut down? or can they stay w us, which i hope!! thanks for giving out helpful infos! and my bf pirs on 12/22...ship 03, div 031... he's a grad n go too? he didnt mentioned that when i got a phone call last saturday. but i forgot to ask that anyhow..lol
