My son was moved to medical ship. How do I write to him? Can we see him at Thanksgiving?

My son was injured during boot camp. He is 1/2 way through. I don't know all the details but it has to do with his knee and running. He could only talk for a minute so I don't know how long he will be there yet. I got the call last night that he won't be graduating and we should not come out. He was moving to the medical ship. Now that he has moved, how can I get his new address so his mail doesn't get delayed catching up with him? Also, we were not going to go out to see him for Thanksgiving because we were going the week after for PIR, but now that he won't be going to PIR I am thinking of flying out for Thanksgiving. Would we be able to see him? How do we arrange that?

I found out an answer to my own question. I found a link on the boot camp website to email with questions and they told me that mail gets walked over there from his prior address and he is not eligible for the adopt a sailor program now so we can't see him.
That is fantastic. There is a wealth of information on this site and there are numerous moms here day and night but we are all just volunteers. It really helps when a mom finds the answer on her own and it's even better when she comes in and shares the information. THANK YOU.
Ryans mom - my son suffered a knee injury in bootcamp too. He actually finished Battle Stations on 4/30. The medical area is referred to as RCU (Recruit Care Unit) it is housed in Ship 4, it used to be in Ship 6 but Ship 6 is being renovated.

They are still in bootcamp so all the bootcamp rules apply. Even though he's injured, he'll have duties in RCU. RCU is very boring and depressing. Counselors and Chaplains are available for th recruits to talk to. My son suggested talking to a Chaplain, they are bound by confidentiality. He will get to write you and if they get time at the NEX, he may get to call. If anything happens, he will definitely call. As hard as it is, No News Is Good News!!!

His mail will eventually catch up to him though my sailor said that it took a couple of weeks in RCU for his mail to catch up and then he didn't get all of our letters (he knew because I dated the back of every envelope and wrote every day).

Friend me if you want any info about injuries and RCU. Hang in there!!
