Ok, I'm back!!!!! Had a great time, but it was difficult seeing my elderly parents. They are 89 and 91. I don't have much to report since I don't hear much from my son. :( Today they start classes and we all know it will be difficult. I will have all of our nuke sailors in my prayers each day - for focus, strength and perseverance. I'd appreciate any news you moms can give me. He seems to be pretty confident about being home for Christmas. I sure hope he's right!
Hi Jan, may be time to rename this discussion to A school class 1102, might make it easier for the parents / spouses / significant others to follow.
Do you have any idea on a grad date? Cant wait to see the boys over Christmas!
Hello! Just found this group. My son is an MM in 1102A. I don't know where the A fits in, but that's the address he gave us. He's doing really well--says his average is now 3.4 something, and would be higher except for some stupid little mistakes on his tests. He sounds so focused and I'm wondering who this kid is, 'cuz he was not like this in high school. I guess that tells me he feels like he belongs and this is what he should be doing. A good start, I'd say!

Any other nuke moms from Michigan?
Hi - I'm not from Michigan but just had to write to you. My son was PIR 10/15/10 and is an MM in 1104A (BTW - the A stands for Alpha). I could have written the email you wrote. My son said the "classic" Nuke is very smart, did not do well in school and loves video games. I don't think that he has ever met so many people like him. My son also had the opportunity to go to 3 colleges and not do well in college either. I don't know what the Navy does - but all I can say is it's something magical. BTW - we're from Philly now, but we lived in Chicago for 12 years and David did graduate from HS in Chicago. I'm so happy that these guys are "finding" themselves. It's quite a wonderful transition. Our sons may be in Power School together, since I don't think that they have as many Power School classes as A classes. My best to you and your son.
My son has just arrived in Charleston and hasn't even started classes yet, still in indoctrination until the beginning of December. But, what I really wanted to tell you is thank you for quoting your son's comments about the "classic" Nuke. My husband and I sort of white knuckled it through bootcamp and were so proud of our son on graduation day. Then when we went to the airport to see him off and listened to all the other Nukes, we looked at each other and said, "They all sound just like our son!" We saw him for such a short time after graduation, but were very thankful for the focus and direction that we could see in him. So looking forward to Christmas and being able to spend more time with him. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Hey Diana, good to see you here!! It will be awesome to journey together again and to have the boys at the same base. They flew down with many other Nukes from their division which was nice. Just wonder how long it will take to class up..................he will be home to get married on the 22nd and spend Christmas at home which we are also hosting. It will be one of the busiest holidays ever at our house, which is all good stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving!! Diego is going to hook up with some of the other guys and find a Buffalo wild Wings or another place they can eat and watch football!! We will miss not having him home, but he and Kelsey are always talking to each other. He should get his phone in the next couple of days, we shipped it out on Wednesday last week. Didn't get it yet, said it has to go through inspection so he uses the pay phone with his calling card.
Hi, I am another MI. Nuke Mom. Our son just PIR'd on 12 November and is waiting to "class up." He told us that it will be after the holiday, just not sure if it means Thanksgiving or Christmas. ugh! He will be able to come home for Christmas break which is good because he will be getting married on the 22nd. Hubby, Kevin and his fiance, Kelsey will be driving down to pick him up since the flight was over $1500.00. We will pray for decent weather for the drive there and back.

Diego is an EM/FN and he really wanted MM, but didn't get it. He did very well in high school, having just graduated in June. He isn't into games like many other guys are, he doesn't sit on the computer for hours. He is an outside kid that loves to be busy. He worked on three farms over the summer and making some decent money and had an awesome last summer at home. We live in a small rural town having moved from a large city a little over five years ago. We love the country and all that it offers.

Glad to hear your son is doing so well, it is different than high school and college. So, what ever the Navy is doing to keep him doing so well, heck, let them keep doing it!
So good to hear from the other Nuke moms. Just spoke to my son, who now informed me that the A is for Alpha. He's doing great--is 5th in his class and has less mandatory study hours. He won't be coming home for Thanksgiving, but we will see him at Christmas, and we're all looking forward to that!
Hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving. I was able to see some of our kiddos on skype, they all seem to be well adjusted and happy. Take care, and may all our sailors have safe travels during the holiday season.

Hope everyone had a great holiday, either with or without your sailor.

Just learned this a.m. that grad date is January 28.  We won't be going to it, since we just saw our son for the holidays, but we do plan on going to power school grad.  Is anyone planning to attend A school grad?

I'm planning on attending A school grad. I booked my flight this past weekend and am really excited to visit again!

We are almost ready for graduation, we will be flying in on Thursday afternoon and staying at the villas. Just need to get rental car squared away.  Looking forward to meeting some other families.  Take care.
