I got a call today too!! She is hanging in there with her hurt foot, now she has really bad shin splints on top of everything else... She is trying so hard to hang in there, said her final PFA is next. Wed. so if she passes that she feels good about graduating on time, but its a real struggle.
She too knows little about what is going on, I had to explain what PIR means! Anyway, I am torn between wanting her to graduate with her division and wanting her to kick back a little to get better. I really do hope to see you all there, but it's in God's hands-
I am so glad to hear that she is hanging in, what a trooper. I will pray for her. I understand your being torn, I think you are doing an awesome job holding up, I am not sure that I would be as brave as you are being knowing that my child was hurting. Kudos. I hope to meet some of you all. Are you going to meet and greet? I havent decided yet, I guess I need to do that soon. We are coming from so far away I just wasnt sure if we were going to be up to going out that night with having to get up so early the next day. I am bringing 2 teenage girls who have to get ready in the morning, so that should be a real treat, lol. Best of luck to you and your family.
I also got a phone call on Friday. It was so good to hear to from him, I am so glad we are finnally getting phone calls. He told me they had live fire this last week and that he passed. He did not do as well as he had hoped, which I don't understand since he is such a good shot when we go to the range here but, they probably do things differently. He also told me they have the gas chamber this next week. He is really looking forward to PIR and said he want to go to Buffalo Wild Wings to eat on that Friday. ha ha ha. So I guess I better find one in that area. He also told me that he will call on Thanksgiving. So I am now looking forward to that call but, since we will be with all the family I will have to pass the phone around. I hope he doesn't ask to speak to his Grandmother. If he does I guess I will just tell him she is sleeping and I will have to warn the family to say the same thing. He doesn't know that she has passed on and I don't want him to know before Battle Stations. Battle Stations is the big one and all of our kids need to stay focused.
Hello Ladies, Great to hear we are all getting calls. I was hoping for one over the weekend. But he did call his dad on friday. He was only given a few minutes. He did great in live fire. Said he received a medal for "sharpshooter"! I am so proud. He also mentioned he had gained 10 pounds. I can't wait to see him. He was always very active, never heavy, so it will be interesting to see him. They have bulked him up some I'm sure. hahaha
PAM (Ship 03 Div 018) : I know what your saying about Thanksgiving and passing the phone around, it's hectic when we get such little time with them on the phone. I am sorry to hear about his grandmother, I can imagine how difficult it is not to tell him. My sister is very ill right now as (she is scheduled to see an an oncologist on the 30th). I have had to keep him from knowing. I have struggled with those feelings as well; You want so badly for them to know. Its so hard, but we moms know it is better for us to give them news when we know we can wrap our arms around them and comfort them. Especially right now when they are so close to PIR. And we want them to stay focused. Stay strong, and know you are in the prayers of N4M. I feel I am like alot of moms here, I never knew my own strength and courage until I became a NAVY MOM! God Bless
My little girl called me Saturday, from the medical ward. It turned out she not only had fractured her foot, she has stress fractures in both legs, most likely from compensating for the foot. She is ASMO'd for another 6 weeks, so unfortunately I won't be joining all of you very wonderful women on the 3rd. She is broken hearted, but I think all in all I am relieved that she is getting the medical attention she needs instead of being in pain all the time, and letting her bones heal badly and causing problems in the future. At any rate, thank you all for being there for me, and a by the way, I just received the division shirts I ordered so if anyone is interested, i have 4 which I will sell for 15. ea, priority shipping included. They were 20. originally plus shipping. I have 1 small and 2 large division t shirts and a woman's designer in xl (those run 2 sizes small), We were all going to wear them to her PIR. Contact me through my page if interested. God bless and the best of luck to your children!
Oh cakemom, how sad for her. Will she have to do everything all over again, or will she just have to start from where she left off? Will you get the opportunity to see her between now and whenever her new PIR will be? Unfortunately I dont think you have any sizes that would fit anyone in our family, but thank you for thinking of all of us. I will be thinking of you and your recruit and wishing her speedy recovery. Take care.
Cakemom so sorry she will not be finishing with the group she started with but, she gave it a good try. It really is better for her in the long run that she get the medical treatment and for her to heal properly. We will miss you at PIR and I will be praying for your daughter. Please continue to let us know how she is doing, I feel like you and your daughter are a part of my life..
My son called from there as well on friday night, I was so excited to finally hear his voice for the first time in 6 weeks. I was like you and kept missing his calls and it was so depressing. He sounded so good, the only thing that he really stressed in his conversation to me was, "mom, I don't think I am going to do this for 20 years, like I thought". Too funny. I wrote him a letter today and said, just wait to make that decision, you have plenty of time, lol. He is my oldest and only boy, so it has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I cant wait until 12/3. wooo hooo.
OK girls, just a couple of more days until our recruits become sailors, then we can all take the breath we have been holding for 7 weeks. Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful thanksgiving.
Just got my Thanksgiving phone call....yay!!! He sounded really good, said he had only lost 3 pounds, but planned on putting it all back on today. He said they got all their flags, and the gas chamber wasnt that bad. He got to go out with his good buddy and his mother for the day, so excited for 12/3. It was soooooo good to hear his voice, he sounded exactly like he did when he left. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving all.
not very many following this page from ship 03 Div 018! never got a call yesteday so now I'm nervous..My husband says don't worry, but everyone had the holiday off and I expected it..and I don't know where she ate either,,aurgghhh!! she's pretty good with her letter once a week and has called before,, wonder if she did something wrong,?
I got a phone call in the AM from my son, he was out with a friend, he said that he would call me when he got back to base, but he never did, so I was wondering the same thing. I havent heard anything since then either. I did get a letter yesterday, but it was dated for the 21st. I get more information on here than I do from my recruit.
