There seems to be so many of you lately!!! It is wonderful that you will have each other's support while going thru the process together.

Thought I would start this thread so you can at least connect and share stories together. Seems like there is a fair amount of you in Great Lakes and just as many more trying to decide if you can more to Great Lakes.

Courtney - is your hubby an FC?

We have seen at least two FCs get orders today both are heading to SanDiego HOWEVER...they don't report to school until April 30th from what I understand so that means they will be hanging out in GL for the winter.
Mine is ET
I think the ET orders have been more available but your hubby will know best. The FC orders have been non existent lately but are starting to surface but with long report dates.

Fingers crossed that your hubby gets SD orders but if he doesn't that doesn't necessarily mean VA. We have ETs going to school in Augusta, GA, Florida, Gulfport, MS, DamNeck or Norfolk, VA those are just a few locations that come to mind and I believe there are other locations as well. We have never gotten a good list of all of the C schools for the ETs.
This is so exciting hearing about everyones husbands finishing up A school!! My husband just graduated BC Nov 19th so he is currently trying to phase up and going through INDOC and filling out live ashore paperwork!!!! If all goes well, me and the kiddies will be in Great Lakes at the end of Dec or beg. of Jan!. I am so excited to go and be with him. I thought it would be kinda hard for me to leave my family behind here in Michigan but I am so ready for a change!!!!
Yes I am very excited to go. It was a lot of back and fourth as far as if we should go or not but when it came down to it, we decided that we really have nothing to lose here in Michigan and my husband really wants to be able to see the kids as much as possible. I have heard about the Gurnee Schools and I just started really looking into them and so far I like what I am finding on that school district. I am happy for you and your husband and that things are finially wrapping up and you can be with each other! I know it is long over due. Good luck to you and your family
Any wives at Dahlgren that can offer some good apartment options? My husband's school is 15 days shy of us being able to qualify for base housing, but orders are accompanied. We've lived apart for a year and I'm ready to go where he goes.
I lived in Dahlgren for 6mos but we lived on base. The area ight outside does have some apartments and rental houses.Your best bet might be to get ahold of housing there and see if they have a list of approved apartments.
The relocation PLR here at Great Lakes gave us 4 apartments that they reccomend. I'm only a few hours from there now and under any other circumstance would just drive up there and find something in person, but I'm pregnant and due in a couple of weeks, so we'll be finding something site unseen. I'm so nervous about that.
I'm new to this... my hubby can submit requests for where we are stationed?
ProudNavyWife,
Your hubby will be putting in a dream sheet for where he might want to go but his C school location will be driven by if he is an ET or an FC as they have totally different schools and locations. The length and location is not determined until the end of A school (or even after a school lately!)

Performance is school can be a factor as well, generally they get to pick their orders based on their class standing. For example if they are 10 sets of orders and your hubby is #1 in the class - he should get first pick of the orders that are available that day. It doesn't always work out that way at GL lately but that is the traditional way things are done.

Our son was honor grad at C school (Dahlgren, VA) and as a result he got to pick what ship he wanted to go to. The choices were: one set of orders for Hawaii and all the other orders were for Norfolk. He is enjoying Hawaii :-)
I bet!!! Our family is back in VA and as much as we love it, we'd like to see other parts of the world, if possible. Of course I say this now and may feel much different when he's truly gone! :)

I have no doubt my hubby will excel so that's great news he may be rewarded for good grades/behavior/etc.

Does his track of ET or FC get picked for him or does he have a say in it? When does this assignment happen?
My husband is an FC- he graduated the first week of October, got his orders the day before Thanksgiving and has to report no later than February 5th. A friend of mine from GL has to report the beginning of January so I guess it really just depends on the school. Ramon's C school is for Spy Track 3
