OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Let's get to know each other! Ship 07 Div 050 Families
Hello to All!
Let's just start with introductions. I'll go first :) (I kind of have to, I started this discussion).
My SR is 19 and had been on again/off again about joining the Navy pretty much his whole life. I think today's economy really helped him to make up his mind about this. However, Navy runs in our family. I was raised a Navy Brat and almost joined myself at one time. Not joining has been a regret. But, life didn't turn out too bad. I'm happy, healthy, have a great husband and thank God I have job.
My SR is supposed to go on to Aircew "A" School in Pensacola after bootcamp. But there had been some discussion of Nuke School. So, I'm not sure which direction he is going in yet. The contract says Aircrew, but this is the Navy..."the needs of Navy" may come into play.

My son just turned 18 on August 28th. He is the 3rd of our 4 children but the first to leave the state. He has known for a few years that he would join the Military but was deciding between the Airforce and the Navy. In January he signed up for the Navy. He is very driven and once he decides on something he usually follows it. He was very anxious to leave and get started. For the longest time it seemed so far away and then before I knew it the time had come for him to leave. That was a very difficult day but I had to remind myself that he wasn't dead and was still in the country "it will be okay" :) Doing much better but really looking forward to the phone call in a few weeks and hope I don't miss it. In the card I sent him today I asked him to be sure and leave a long message if I don't answer so I can hear his voice. I'm sure he really appreciated that :) This has really been a great website. If it weren't for N4M I would of been left in the dark on so many things. Looking forward to getting to now you and others that join.

OK, I'm step-mom to Kevin, 18. Once he decided to join, there was never any doubt for him. I will admit, I was concerned. He was still 17 and in High School, but he seemed so sure. I'm very proud of him. Our relationship was "strained" during the teen years, but it seemed making this decision also made him mature and things were put right between us before he left. Just here to show my support to him and all our military.

Hi Everyone! =)
My name is Natasha...its nice to "meet" all of you, and be part of this amazing community!
I'm 19 years old turning 20 in March...getting old! lol
I joined this site for my friend, who means the world to me. He is 20 years old and he is a car lover! He loves working on them, driving them, cleaning them etc. He loves his car so much that his only request to his mom was for her to send him a picture of his Nissan 240SX...I love that thing! lol. He is in the Navy to be an Aviation Mechanic, so he will be doing something related to what he wanted to do if he stayed back home--a Mechanic. I am so thankful with God and so happy that he made the decision to go and be part of the Navy. I always knew he had so much more to give (not that being a mechanic is bad or something to be ashamed of). My heart is at peace because I know he will be amazing in the Navy, and will have a much more stable future.
His family and I are very close, and his mom Lorenza is also a member (Add her! you can find her under "Lorenza" lol). He was uncertain about his decision, on and off, on and off, but finally decided to go. It was the best decision he made, and we are all so immensely proud of him.
I am currently attending college, and I gotta say that him joining the Navy, definitely motivated me even more to push through and earn my degree.
We met in High School when we were 17 and dated for over 2 years. We are very close, and although we are currently not officially together, we continue to support one another unconditionally. I can't wait to see him at graduation and hear all the new things he will have to say! -

Well, my son is 21 and was 'floundering' around, trying different careers, college, and cooking school. He was getting nowhere fast! He had wanted to join the military, but put it on the 'back burner' until his older brother, who will graduate from Med School in May, enlisted in the Navy as an Ensign (will be Lieutenant). They both wanted to serve their country and I couldn't be any prouder.
My SR left for GL last Tues. 11/16 to begin the journey of a lifetime. He will remain at GL for A School as a CS. He gets to continue his Culinary career in the Navy!! To top it all off, he volunteered for submarine duty! So, he will be off to Groton, CT after he graduates A School.
He couldn't wait to leave...I can't wait to hear how he's doing. Haven't gotten his 'letter' yet, just the 'box' with only his cell phone inside. Getting his address made me feel 'reconnected' to him. Cannot wait to go to his PIR and to meet all of you, as well. Don't know what I would have done without N4M's during this whole process. I love my Navy Family<3 -

Addendum- Now my SR is G&G to Ft. Lee, VA for CS, so he's not doing A School at GL's. Going to have to cherish every moment we have with him at graduation!

Ok I am a little late on this, but better late then never. My son is 20 and is an amazing person to say the least. He has talked about the Military for some time, and has an Uncle that is retired Coast Gaurd. I have been supportive from day one with his decision, It is so honorable and brave. He is supposed to go to A school in Pensacola. I can say this about him " He is the most loyal person I know". This will fit him like a glove, a military career that is. I miss him like crazy!!

My son is 20 and he went to join the Air Force first (his dad and step-dad are AF) they disqualified him because of his tattoos, one was more than 50 % of his body part(leg/calf) and the AF recruiter walked him over to the Navy recruiter, he found out the job he was wanting to do in the AF the Navy also had and because of his college credits he would come out of boot camp as an E-3. I am very proud that he made his mind up on his own to join. He is my second son of 5 kids (4 boys and 1 girl). He will have 9 hours after boot camp before going to A school in Florida, he sounds very excited to be there for his 21st birthday during spring break. He is in ship 07 div 049
