My son left for BC on Dec 14th and we had a great Christmas before he left. I know that Christmas day will be holiday routine (so says the recruiter) but I'm wondering if the recruits might be able to make a call even though it's early since it's Christmas? Any ideas?

that's what my husband says :) he kept saying that this past month before he left lol
I read the book about boot camp and it seemed like the recruits got to either go to a family in the community or a church event for an Xmas meal. I'm thinking those lucky enough to get to a family's home - would maybe be able to get a call home, if they have a calling card . . . What a wonderful thing this program is. It's hard to think of our son without his family for Xmas, but this was his calling . . . and what he wanted. We sure will miss him. Our son also left on Dec. 14th. but I don't know what group he's in yet either.
I read about that on the NRTC Facebook page. New recruits are not eligible for the Adopt a Sailor program. So our SR's will be staying on base. They get a half day off from training but then it is back to the grind.
Apparently they got to make a call (or at least mine did) yesterday morning but the cell phone was upstairs and I didn't hear it. Another message :( I'm a terrible mom. sigh I've learned my lesson now and the phone will be on me at all times. My poor kid.
My son left Nov 9. He was able to call us Thanksgiving Day. The VFW and USO fed them very well. They know that it is difficult for recruits to be away from home during the Holidays and do a great job making the kids feel as good as they can.
