I have a loved one on this ship.  Have not heard fom him yet.  My loved one is 18 and this had been the dream since they were little.

I have a recruit also on this ship/division.  I haven't heard anything from him yet.  No letters or phone call yet.  Kinda frustrating hearing others getting letters already that left the same time as our loved ones.  Our time will come though.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one that hasn't heard anything!  I know they say that 'No news is Good news', but that still doesn't really help any.  I hope all of you are coping today, with it being Christmas without your loved ones.  I hope we all hear something soon!  Have a Merry Christmas!

my son is in that division, i have not received anything except for the formal letter from the navy , with a few sentences at the bottom.  Hopefully we will hear soon

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!  I got 2 letters today from my son.  I am on cloud 9 and not getting off any time soon.  His first letter was dated 12/18 and had 8 pages.  He put several dates on that letter.  The second
letter was dated 12/24 & 12/26.

 

He must have already gotten my letters because he answered some of my questions and thanked me for pictures I sent.  He said most of the recruits in his division are from California and Hawaii.  He said he
was the only one from Illinois.  He also said 80% of his division has
been or is sick with a bad cough.  So far he has managed to stay clear
of the cough.

 

He started out stating he was homesick and some of the foods he was eating reminded him of home.  One specific dinner he had on Fri the first week there was burritos. His step dad always made them on
Fridays.  He said he had all he could do to not cry.    His division
just started actual PT on 12/20.  Up until that he said it was pretty
boring.  Did a lot of reading training manuals.  He said the food was
AWESOME and he has been able to take hot showers.  He did mention that
the boots gave him blisters so I sent him some band aids. He said that
his division has several recruits who don't cooperate and listen so they
have been doing a lot of push ups and getting "beatings".

 

He has mastered folding clothes and making his bed in 8 minutes flat so far.  He can shave with a razor without cutting his face now (always used electric razor at home).  He passed the Physical Assessment
Test real good and the swimming test. He looks forward to breakfast,
lunch and dinner now when he never really did at home.  He misses music,
video games and Tv but realizes he misses his family more than any of
those things.  I started crying when I read that.  He hasn't had to
shovel snow yet.  He said it is mostly done on watches and when he is on
watch it hasn't snowed.

 

He is in a 900 division which was hand picked based on ASVAP scores and he said this is an advanced division and more is expected from them then from other divisions.  He said his division performs at
PIR and they are the ones with the rifles and swords.  He said they get
to met alot of the "higher ups".

 

So far only 3 recruits have been dropped from his division.  He said he averages 5 hours a sleep a night and sometimes 8 hours. 

 

He also didn't pass his eye color test.  Which he said he failed badly.  He will be unable to do his current job of AECF.  He has been given several other choices which he said are cool jobs and he needs to
decide in a few weeks.  So right now we are not sure what he will be
doing or where he will be going to A School. Over all it is what he
expected only harder.  It isn't what they show in the videos to get you
to join.  He is looking forward to getting through boot camp and PIR. 
Throughout his letter he was pretty upbeat and humorous.

 

Also said that they will be able to call home on either 1/6 or 1/7/11.

 

Home some of this helps others who haven't heard from their recrruits.

That really helped!!!  Thank you so much for sharing!  I haven't gotten a letter yet, but hope to soon!  This morning one of my husbands bunkmates called (I didn't get his name) me and told me that my husband wanted him to call me to let me know that he was ok.  The bunkmate said that my husband is recieving my letters and that he should be able to call on Jan. 3rd.  So that makes me wonder if they are in some sort of order for calling since that guy called today and my husband on Jan. 3rd then your son on 6th or 7th.  He also said that my husband sent out something on Christmas Eve, so I am hoping to get it tomorrow!  I am even more excited now to get his letters since I read about your sons!  It sounds like he is doing really good!  I had no idea about the 900 divisions (as you know my husband is also in the 912 division!).  I can't wait to hear from him!!  I'm very happy for you!!!

I got a letter as well. My sweet mom read it to me over the phone as I am out of town, but I"ll try and remember all she said.

The letter was dated 12/25. Says it's week one, day 4 and that he's gonna be in boot camp longer that he thought with graduation 2/11?

He's friends with the two guys on either side of his bunk, 'yum-yum"? and someone from Detroit. (or maybe that's the same person I can remember.

He was also chosen to do 900 division and said we wont see him in PIR because he is doing the reception for the big wigs and he presents the cutlass to some big wig and they cut the cake and then they wipe the cutlass on his dress blues!??

Apparently they have a bunch of "kids" as he called them that can't shut up and have no military honor and are getting the rest of them beat....a lot. Bummer. He said RTC could be a breeze if you just did what you were told, but that it is not one, but a whole division that must work together. So far they are 79 strong.

Food is great and he is actually gaining weight and putting on muscle mass eating 3 meals a day. (his goal)

Said the weather is not really all that cold especially because they never go out side and when they do they have on nylon shorts, tshirt, sweats and sweatshirt and a jacket and a watch cap. That makes me laugh cause he's never worn that many cothes in his life---this is the skinny kid we always watched in nothing but a sweatshirt in the snow drifts.

He also said he loved the letters and the pictures and to keep them coming. He answered a bunch of questions I'd asked, one being his hair cut..doesn't love it, doesn't hate it; the BCG's (birth control glasses), yes he hates them, and they are crooked to boot.

There was no mention of illnesses, so I guess he's ok there. Loved the New Balance running shoes, hates the boots.

He again said they are trying to get everyone to work together and that if they do, and they get a 4.6 out of 5 on their next tests (as a unit) they will get a long phone call home after the first of the year. I can hear the frustration in his words that there are some that do very well, and some that are in his words 'douchebags' (sorry) that are slowing them down and getting them beatings. Lessons of life I guess

 That's all I can remember. When I get home I will try to send the rest.

I got my first sets of letters on Thursday (16 pages!)!!!  I am so thrilled!!!  He is doing really well!  He really misses me and our son.  He is in the 900 Honor Div, he is also a Honor Guard, and he has been offered the job of Yeoman, although he doesn't know yet if he will take it!  He said the food was pretty good.  He said that they are doing PT with the Seal Canadites, which he doesn't really like.  He is keeping his head up!  He said that he may be able to call on the 6th!  I hope he is able to!  It was so good to hear from him!  Happy New Years to everyone and I look foward to a new year of adventures with my Sailor!

It sounds like to me that our SR are in a tougher division than other divisions.  My son did say that this division was alot harder than others, but I had no idea that they were doing PT with Seal candidates.  I know their PT is alot harder than the other divisions PT.  I guess that is a good thing.  Right?  My son said he does watch on Saturday nights and that is all he said.  Wondering about all the "yelling" at night, I thought that was when the slept or ironed? 

 

I haven't gotten anymore letters since Tuesday of last week.  I hope I get some this week with updates on what job he is thinking on taking since his other job was pulled from him due to being color blind.  I hope he also puts names of these other SR that he has become friends with.
