While those of you who sew continue to sew (thank you ver much) here is our destination

Amphibous Assault ship The USS KEARSARGE.  It has been fun chatting with our chaplain, who says they have opened a new space for our Sailors and Marines to  unwind called Holy Joe's Café.  Are we ready to stock it?  Yes!

EVERYTHING in Holy Joe's Cafe is free to our guys and gals!

So, here's the request list:

Beef jerkey covered by Jack's Links

Sunflower seeds

Gum (no hard candy or chocolate)

Coffee--all sorts, both instant, packetts and brew type (I'm saying some tea, too.)

Single packet drinks

Personal hygiene products

DVDs

The crew loves any TV show. I've noticed the popular ones are: Dexter, 24, Prison Break, NCIS, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, House, Spartacus. I obviously wouldn't expect you to get all of these, but it is at least a selection to choose from.

Board games: Storage space is slim, so bulky board games may be difficult. I know that Cranium, Catch a Phrase, and games like that are popular.

Can you add to the list--of course. (No though, on books.)

Lots of cards and handmade pictures from the kids--think SPRING AND ST. PATTY'S DAY

Pack what you can in gallon ziplock type bags so the group can help pick up their godies. And of course, the pillowcases

It's now just a stitch over 1,000 needed.  Chaplain says: 1028 total

216 female

812 male

In the meantime, keep those sewing machines tuned up and continue sewing!  '

Love ya

Carol

Double Yipppeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!

ok I'm not sure about how many pillow cases I can get sewn, but I was wondering if anybody knows a great place to buy them cheap..and I'm sure I can get quite a bit decorated. I'm much better at sewing by hand than with a machine

I found these do you think they would work?

ZIP-ON PILLOW COVERS

50% Kodel polyester/50% pre-shrunk cotton covers. Need no ironing. Machine washable.
Standard size: 21"x27"
Folks, would the zippers be ok, or could they get too hot in some situations?  They sound like pillow case protectors, so chime in with your advice.  Also, Lauren, even one that you sew is great, so don't worry about how many one person can do.  It will work with all of us sewing.
Have washed about 40 yards of fabric in preparation for the Troy, IL sewing party at the VFW.  the washer and dryer have been spinning for two days off and on.

When you get the count of male vs female, I have at least 50 (probably closer to 100)  female holding over from earlier this year!

My sister "went to town" over her winter break and completed at least 80 male pillowcases and left them with me.  I'm slowly plugging away at the stack of fabric we cut so I'll be adding to the number!

While in Joanne's last week, my sister and I met a mother and daughter (Mary & Allison) who were picking up fabric to make a quilt!  She asked what we were doing and said she would LOVE to make pillowcases for the military!

Well today she dropped off 30 cases she did in 2 days!  Since my sister spent so much time in Joanne's over the Christmas holiday, she left me with  dozens (and dozens) of cases cut, ready for sewing....Well Mary took a stack of cases that were cut and ready to sew with her when she left!

Mary said she was thrilled to be able to help because she had been thinking about finding some worthy group to sew for!  Sure glad I was in the right place at the right time!  I'll try to get some pictures posted...she made a lobster, dancing chili peppers, eagles, feathers, carrots, tomatoes (really cute)...

Good thing these are "made with love", because I can't match her skill!

LOL Valerie -----

Mine will be made with love also ----- My niece is quite the sewer and she is coming to town to see Tucker and she said its pillowcase sewing time !!  ha ha So I am going to try to sew :)

I cant beleive that lady in 2 days made 30 ?   AWESOME ----- This is great, I have been worried about the 1000 pillowcases , thats a ton of pillowcases.

Maybe we ought to start getting a count going ???

My spread sheet is ready to put in the first 30 that have been reported, Molly.  btw, great conference call.
ok ladies, count me in on helping with the pillow cases. I will check my material and go buy some more and thank you for doing this for our soldiers. All I will need is an address where to send them!
For some reason, I can't respond to your latest remarks.  But, WOW!

Here's the breakdown on pillow cases needed folks

216 female

812 male

Yep--that's 1,028 pillow cases needed.  We won't ship till that last week in February. So, if you get snowed in, be sure you already have your fabric, needles and thread on hand!

Love you all

If you have already listed your pillow cases made, please let me know how many are male vs female.  Of course, many fabric choices go either way, so let me know that count, too.

((hugs)))) Carol

These are Mary's... my favorite is the lobster and the dancing chillis
