While those of you who sew continue to sew (thank you ver much) here is our destination

Amphibous Assault ship The USS KEARSARGE.  It has been fun chatting with our chaplain, who says they have opened a new space for our Sailors and Marines to  unwind called Holy Joe's Café.  Are we ready to stock it?  Yes!

EVERYTHING in Holy Joe's Cafe is free to our guys and gals!

So, here's the request list:

Beef jerkey covered by Jack's Links

Sunflower seeds

Gum (no hard candy or chocolate)

Coffee--all sorts, both instant, packetts and brew type (I'm saying some tea, too.)

Single packet drinks

Personal hygiene products

DVDs

The crew loves any TV show. I've noticed the popular ones are: Dexter, 24, Prison Break, NCIS, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, House, Spartacus. I obviously wouldn't expect you to get all of these, but it is at least a selection to choose from.

Board games: Storage space is slim, so bulky board games may be difficult. I know that Cranium, Catch a Phrase, and games like that are popular.

Can you add to the list--of course. (No though, on books.)

Lots of cards and handmade pictures from the kids--think SPRING AND ST. PATTY'S DAY

Pack what you can in gallon ziplock type bags so the group can help pick up their godies. And of course, the pillowcases

It's now just a stitch over 1,000 needed.  Chaplain says: 1028 total

216 female

812 male

In the meantime, keep those sewing machines tuned up and continue sewing!  '

Love ya

Carol

Since I have pillowcases donated by my sister and Mary, plus the ones I am working on, I can contribute more than the 60 alloted to me above

I currently have in my stash 45 more generic and 41 more male completed, plus 30 male/generic that are in various stages of sewing (french seams are lovely, but twice as much work....)  Plus whatever the number was that Mary took with her last week when she dropped off her pc.

Is there any money available to help non packing party people with shipping?  Or can I send some of my pillowcases to a packing party?  It will be a lot less expensive to ship a large box via UPS stateside than it is going to be to ship APO/FPO or a large box to an APO/FPO address

did I really see Joannes is having a 70% off sale this weekend????  Good thing my husband supports and encourages my military projects...

I put a note in the main page looking for a packing party.  IN the meantime are you on the California page--I think they have divided the state up by south, north and central.  Also, check with your VFW/American Legion and see if they can either give you a hand or have a suggestion.

I spent almost $50 just on basic thread colors this week, as my machine only tolerates brands like Mettler.  I don't have the thread breakage nor the frustration when I use it.

How do I find the California page?  It would be southern, probably...

valeriejean ------ I see no difference in packing boxes full of various things or packing boxes or pillowcases only. They are going to the same place. Get a few together pack up the pillowcases and we can pay. Just do the same thing a packing party does ---pick date, sign the paper saying you will be responsible to make sure they get to the post office or picked up and BAM we can pay shipping.

A party doesnt have to have 50 boxes to qualify --- 1 box would qualify as long as you have a few doing it. ((we just cant pay for individuals shipping , well, simply because we cant say yes to you and no to your nieghbor etc))  BUT grab a few people and pack pillowcases.

Yippe for thinking both outside AND inside the box!
valeriejean--can yi\ou confirm what your total is.  I've got like 30 female, 110 male, but not sure that is right.  Thanks :)
ok without looking through each page and I don't want to sound dumb, but, what do the dimentions need to be for the pillow cases? I called our local sewing matterial shop to start looking for matterial for me. Any reply would be welcome.

YOur finished pillowcase should be approx. 20" x no longer than 32".  22X30 is ok.  21 1/2 x 28 1/2 is ok.  Band can be up to 8 inches of that, folded in half.  Just look at a twin pillowcase if you have one.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much

FYI...Bed Bath & Beyond has Roxy pillowcases, 2 per package, on sale for $4.99.....good time to use all those coupons that you have stashed in a drawer because the will take them even if expired!

Carol, FYI - I've rounded up a couple of ladies at the Army Navy Garrison to sew sew sew.  I'll let you know how many they think they can make by ship date.  I've also asked a local quilting group and I'm waiting for a reply.
