Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Son leaves for BC 1-19-11 anyone else out there?

Hi this is Lorelei. My son is leaving for GL on 1-19-11. I can't believe it's already here. He's so excited and nervous about going and his dad and I are in shock. How did it get here so fast? Would love to hook up with anyone who's son is heading out on this date. We live in Oregon. It's cold here but not as cold as Chicago.

My son left today too.  He was so incredibly strong which made it a bit easier.  After the ceremony I had to drive his girlfriend to Milwaukee and we drove right past the exit to Great Lakes.  Lots of love was sent to all the srs arriving there today!!  And, on my way home as I was driving past the exit again I received my last text message from my son saying he loved me and missed me all ready.  I completely lost it.  It was tears of absolute pride!  I'm thinking of all of you as we wait for our I'm here call.  STAY STRONG!

My son left today 2011-01-19 for boot camp.  I got to speak with him at 4:30pm tonight and then received a text when he arrived at GL.  I can not wait to get his 1st letter.  I am just waiting to get the address so I can mail him mine too.

I'm so glad you got word from your son. Now the waiting starts. But we'll make it. Sounds like you will have time taken up planning your trip to Chicago. Our recruiter said we'll be able to spend from Friday after the grad til Sunday with our kids. I would be fun if our boys new each other. Be sure to find the site for PIR 3/18. That's where we'll plan to meet each other at the graduation.

Not sure how to take that last comment. Being a Bay area transplant we get crap from the home crowd too. I won't tell you what teams they love. See you on SF group soon.

Hello Lorelei, my son arrived in GL yesterday also..My name is Leah we are from New Jersey.. I am still in shock and it was the most heart wrenching 15 second phone call that I recieved at midnight from my son...he sounded so scared !! I hope I can handle this

Leah,

My son also arrived at Great Lakes yesterday.  He sounded excited when he made his call home, but I keep having these visions of them being yelled at the first couple weeks and I too worry about my son making it through it.  All we can do is have faith.  They WILL make it through and be stronger as a result!!

My son saw one of his friends right before he left who has already completed Boot Camp and he said it is rough at the beginning because of the yelling, but eventually you get use to it.

STAY STRONG.  Start writing letters and these days will fly by.

Hopefully our sons will become friends. It is hard knowing they are being yelled at and there is nothing I can do to protect him. And you are right they will be come stronger men and make it through.

Hi Diane, it is not definite it will either be 3/18 or 3/25. We'll see when it gets just a little closer. It won't be long. Thats a good question for PIR 3/18 which is another group. Look at my groups on my profile and you'll find it there. Join us.
