There seems to be so many of you lately!!! It is wonderful that you will have each other's support while going thru the process together.

Thought I would start this thread so you can at least connect and share stories together. Seems like there is a fair amount of you in Great Lakes and just as many more trying to decide if you can more to Great Lakes.

When I was pregnant and lived there I used North Shore OB/GYN.  They are in Evanston, and about a 45 minute drive from base, but well worth.  The midwives there are amazing!

I just moved here on January 1st. Up for meeting any of you who like to have fun.
hey ladies! i was addicted to this site while my husband was in boot camp and then i got so wrapped up in getting up to great lakes i forgot about it! anyhow, i am now living up here with him while he's in A School (he's an ET), he finishes up ATT next week then onto A School. if anyone has questions i'm happy to help, i know it can be a time of chaos and confusion!!
We just got a call from hubby's recruiter and he's leaving for BC 1/25. DAR pushed him through much faster than expected! I can't even begin to describe all the crazy emotions I'm feeling right now from panicked to excited to sad to happy. I look forward to our new life ahead but will try and cherish my last 13 days with my sweet husband. What will I do with myself while he's gone?!?
Sometimes a short report date is easier on all.  Good luck to him!
I definitely agree! Now we just have 45 million things to do before he leaves me. Anyone know if Navy assists with Power of Attorney process?
When he gets to boot camp, that's one of the things they can do when they sit him down to do paperwork. He has to tell them he needs one though.
Ok so we don't need to worry about it now? Of course it's also tax season so I get to deal with that fun stuff by myself but that's why it's extra important to have the POA immediately.

I don't know for sure what the military does for POA, but my here's how we did one before my husband left... Rocket Lawyer (I think that's what it's called) has the forms online for free and you customize them for your situation. We printed them off and took them to our bank and they notarized them free of charge. I hope that helps. Good luck!

Thank you Dani. That really helps. Bank of America notarizes documents for free so I think we'll do that just to be safe. I'd like to have some documents on file before he leaves just to be 100% certain.
Yay. My hubby finally got phase 2 after waiting two weeks from checking into A school. Still gotta wait for live ashore to get approved though.

Don't know if this applies to sailors who got married after boot camp, or if it is for all potential Live Ashores.  Things have changed, as things do with the Navy.  Anyone wanting Live Ashore should talk to their COC ASAP.
