February 2011 USS KEARSARGE

While those of you who sew continue to sew (thank you ver much) here is our destination

Amphibous Assault ship The USS KEARSARGE.  It has been fun chatting with our chaplain, who says they have opened a new space for our Sailors and Marines to  unwind called Holy Joe's Café.  Are we ready to stock it?  Yes!

EVERYTHING in Holy Joe's Cafe is free to our guys and gals! 

 

So, here's the request list:

Beef jerkey covered by Jack's Links

Sunflower seeds

Gum (no hard candy or chocolate)

Coffee--all sorts, both instant, packetts and brew type (I'm saying some tea, too.)

Single packet drinks

Personal hygiene products

DVDs

The crew loves any TV show. I've noticed the popular ones are: Dexter, 24, Prison Break, NCIS, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, House, Spartacus. I obviously wouldn't expect you to get all of these, but it is at least a selection to choose from.

 

Board games: Storage space is slim, so bulky board games may be difficult. I know that Cranium, Catch a Phrase, and games like that are popular.

 

 

Can you add to the list--of course. (No though, on books.)

Lots of cards and handmade pictures from the kids--think SPRING AND ST. PATTY'S DAY

 

Pack what you can in gallon ziplock type bags so the group can help pick up their godies.And of course, the pillowcases

 

It's now just a stitch over 1,000 needed.  Chaplain says: 1028 total

We could send chips ahoy, cracker jacks, (you know silly sea themed food)   of course along with what they have requested !!!    HEY HEY HEY HEY I got a CUTE IDEA ---------- ((something like))

What if we get a banner /make a banner thats says HOLY JOES CAFE stocked with a little love from your mom ???  something they could put on the door or in the room ???

Also if we just try to stock the cafe with everything wanted ---then we will not fall short on boxes. If we send 400 or 1000 it wont matter because all will get stuff in the cafe ????? 

BUT we do need the 1000 pillowcases that way everyone does get something.

No, I haven't told him anything. So I guess that means we should keep quiet about it? And also no I haven't heard him say anything about the cafe, but I'm lucky to get much of anything out of him!!

I am ordering a free banner and it should get to my house before mailing is started. I will get it to say Holy Joe's Cafe and at the bottom it will say *stocked courtesy of Molly Mom love*. I won't order it until Friday so if there are other suggestions on what it could say let me know!

Still sewing here...had a little break due to my machine breaking down, but now we are back up and running.  Also, we are starting the purchase to stock the cafe.  I am also soliciting teachers and youth groups to write letters. :)  so excited!!

Since we are helping to stock the cafe, what about books? I know that's not on the list but it did say we could add to it if we wanted. I know my son loves to read and I would have to think many others do, too.

Cheryl good idea ---- Carols Kitchen is the moms of the month (that means she is the one who will ask the point of contact questions for us & stays in contact letting the ship know how things are going etc)  SO YEAH go carol go

Also if they dont have too much space maybe we could have Cheryl be in charge and have her keep track of books /games etc so we can keep a handle on the amount ??

Nancy hold off on the banner for a bit---- lets discuss the look of it.

I do like what you said though ---

We could also order one and have MAS buy it ---- we get a portion of the proceeds come back as a donation, ----But the look , what do we want the look and SIZE. Door size, above door, huge banner ???     YIKES Carol this may be your call here on size

I've already got a question in about books,  I will ask about a banner/sign, too.  I"m thinking sign size.  But, who knows?

Chaplain says they have too many books and have been throwing them away.  So, I guess this means more jerky and coffee!

I can't sew, or embroider. *sigh*  I can send stuff to add to the boxes though.  Just need to know where to send it.  What a nice surprise for them!!
