Hi Tina,
Happy to hear from you. I live in the New Orleans area. Ryan is a LSU graduate, born and raised in NOLA. He currently lives and has worked in the D.C. area for the last 3 years. He has been interested in being a Navy officer for quite some time. This is his dream come true. He will be driving his automobile to Newport. I think he will leave Friday or Saturday. They have to be there Sunday the 30th. Ryan has met up with a guy who works at the Naval Academy, who will be in class 09-11. He went there and a few others who are going to be in the class were also there. He said names, but I don't remember details. He was glad to meet them and is looking forward to OCS.
Pam - Nick is really excited about OCS, too. He graduated from Clemson University on 12-16-10, and has been living at home since then, awaiting the 1-30-11 start date. I know there's a Facebook page that I believe JudyM's son Jesse started that Ryan might want to check out: http://www.facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_161500023879137&ap=1
I'm really glad the NavyForMoms site exists. It's great to be able to communicate with other moms in the same situation.
Tina- happy to hear from you. Congradulations to Nick on his recent college graduation. Ryan already knows about the FB page and has checked it out. Ryan has officially resigned from his job, so now he can start counting the days before he leaves for Newport. I'm sure he has much to do before he leaves. Let's keep in touch.
ATTENTION: OCS Class 09-11 reporting to New Port, RI January 30, 2011
I took Rosemarie's advise and started a group on FB. I called it Friends/Family of 30 January 2011 Navy OCS class 09-11. Please join and lets communicate on FB as well as N4M. I wil also join a group of a previous class. Looking forward to sharing and learning from each other.
CONGRADULATONS to Rosemarie's son and class 04-11 on their recent graduation good luck in the future.
Tina,
I know what you mean. We dropped our son off this afternoon. Very proud of him but our hearts are hurting. He is going to try to take a shuttle from Providence to Newport but doesn't get in until late. He will probably end up taking a taxi. I am glad your son has someone to travel with. It will be nice for him to have someone to chat with and keep their minds busy!
Hi Kimm - I hope you heard from your son and that he made it safely to Newport and OCS. I heard from Nick after he was settled in his room at the Navy Lodge. I noted from your profile that you're from Simpsonville, SC. I'm in Chapin, SC. Maybe we can get together sometime for lunch. Tina
