My fiancee graduates this weekend from basic. His A school is 17 days in Pensacola and then he is off to Whidbey Island. He is with VAQ-137 and he is an airman. Anyone have any information about this base and what life is like? I have no clue and I am new to this. Also, how is the communication, I hope it is better than basic because this has been the longest 9.5 weeks of my life.

I am near NAS Everett which is super close to Whidbey!!! I have not been to the Island but I hear its nice over there. I am mainland but Everett isn't too far away at all. Just a few minutes on the ferry. We aren't too far from Seattle either. It's nice here. I mean I love it but I am a fan of the climate. It does rain here alot during the winter months since they rarely get snow. My hubs is in Pensacola too (Airman-Aviation Tech) and he will hopefully be sent to Whidbey too when his A school is up in June. I am already in Everett so it would be super convenient, lol. But whatever, he will probably end up in Conneticut or something, hahahha! Yuck.

Communication in A school is soooo much better than boot, lol. Most guys get cells and laptops or have them sent to them from home. I sent hubs his phone & lappy. He and I talk on Skype or on his cell ALL THE TIME. He gets homesick and will call me a dozen times a day. But somedays he's up at 0430 and gone til 1830 and than he just crashes and sleeps without calling me. But it is way nicer than the BC no contact crap. lol.

Are you moving out here than too?

Just a little note, even though his A school is 17 days, it will be much longer than that in Pensacola, my daughter was in Pensacola for 3 months. Is he AO? My daughter is AO with VAQ137, that squadron is currently deployed. My daughter loves being in Washington, even though she misses the seasonal changes in NE, there is a lot to do and places to explore, from what I am told.
I am sadly not able to move out with him at the moment. I am a college student and I have to finish my degree. Financially I just can't afford to transfer to another school, so I must wait till I finish. He graduates 2/4, goes to pensacaola 2/9 and his callses start like 2/23 and ends 3/15. So he is there a bit longer than 17 days but still a much shorter A school than we expected. He is an unspecialized airman at the moment, so I am sure after or during A school he will decide what he is going to do. How are the deployments on the ship, do they go out a lot? I am nervous about him being on a ship for like 6months at a time, I heard all you can get is email sometimes.
Well, they have gone out a lot since May, lots of workups to do before they deploy, lots of qualifications before they deploy, lots of training. The squadron doesnt always go with the ship, but lately they have. They are currently out for 7 months, so if your BF is with VAQ 137, he may get sent to the ship. Please dont quote me on this, but the entire squadron is not on Whidbey, unless they assign him to another squadron for a while until his gets back, I really dont know how it works. They are very busy on the ship so I have only gotten email, but they can use ship phones, (kind of expensive) when they have time.
