While those of you who sew continue to sew (thank you ver much) here is our destination
Amphibous Assault ship The USS KEARSARGE. It has been fun chatting with our chaplain, who says they have opened a new space for our Sailors and Marines to unwind called Holy Joe's Café. Are we ready to stock it? Yes!
EVERYTHING in Holy Joe's Cafe is free to our guys and gals!
So, here's the request list:
Beef jerkey covered by Jack's Links
Sunflower seeds
Gum (no hard candy or chocolate)
Coffee--all sorts, both instant, packetts and brew type (I'm saying some tea, too.)
Single packet drinks
Personal hygiene products
DVDs
The crew loves any TV show. I've noticed the popular ones are: Dexter, 24, Prison Break, NCIS, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, House, Spartacus. I obviously wouldn't expect you to get all of these, but it is at least a selection to choose from.
Board games: Storage space is slim, so bulky board games may be difficult. I know that Cranium, Catch a Phrase, and games like that are popular.
Can you add to the list--of course. (No though, on books.)
Lots of cards and handmade pictures from the kids--think SPRING AND ST. PATTY'S DAY
Pack what you can in gallon ziplock type bags so the group can help pick up their godies. And of course, the pillowcases
It's now just a stitch over 1,000 needed. Chaplain says: 1028 total
216 female
812 male
In the meantime, keep those sewing machines tuned up and continue sewing! '
Love ya
Carol

jenmack!!! Wonderful!!! Great job!!! ♥
Got a little busy at home last night--can you believe I had to do housework? Got out today to take the bank deposit for school--stepped out the door and was blinded by the sun! Good thing I keep my Molly's Adopt a Sailor baseball cap in the car. Only way I made it to the bank. Now to my routine chiropractor appointment and then to catch up on the pillowcase count. (We may be done for this month, but it any one has specialized ones, let me know and we can save some others for next month's project.)
Love you all!

Navy Sewing Mommas! Please check your pillowcase counts above. I think we are able to set some aside for another group. If anyone has made iron on pillowcases with the Kearsarge emblem, let me know, and we can be sure they get included to ship.
Give yourselves a pat on the back for pulling through with such large numbers. You are the BEST!
Thanks Krista, Molly's LOVE all our Sewers...Also check out Susan's (Nikos moms) Discussion-Pillowcase parties! WE -MAS, maybe able to provide fabric! A thought!!!!
Yes, you're right, just not the emblem of the ship :) I thought about making one in counted cross stitch, but he would probably be out of the Navy before I got finished lol.
OK, everyone, here's the news Diane said I should share here. Ignore it if you read it elsewhere. It will be shorter - I promise. Yesterday I just couldn't get the words out fast enough. It was a crazed woman who left a message on Diane's phone, which I am sure you will veryify my friend... Today I am more composed, but still just as excited!!
So, yesterday I'm out doing my "begging" for items for our MA Moms packing party on Sat. It was 50-50 successful. Half were we will have to review this and get back to you (they think they were brushing me off, but they don't know me). It was a stormy, gray day, it was snowing, raining, sleeting, some more snow and I had had enough. Being out I decided to stop at this little quilting shop in a strip mall on Rte. 1. It is known for their fabrics, but they are very, very pricey. But, I needed colors since everything was gray - even the snow is dirty now. But, back to fabrics. I went in and there was only 1 other customer which made me nervous because I had no intention of buying. They were very nice, asked how they could help. So I said the only thing I could think of: I'm looking for red, white, blue fabrics and anything with stars or could be patriotic. They tell me to look around and be sure to go thru all the rooms. It is a narrow shop, but no kidding I went thru 3 rooms plus hallways of fabric headed for the bargain room. Instead I wander into the manager/owner's office, by mistake. She asks if I am looking to quilt and I say no, I want to make pc's. She said they offer a class in how to make them. Is that an awesome coincidence or what! I ask why. She says people make them for the military. I'm thinking Oh really! She says she has on "her horizon" the plan to have another charity event - a community-wide, all day sewing of pc's. So I tell her all about us and how many are being made for the Kearsage. She is amazed, so I continue and ask her if she would consider doing a charity event in support of Molly's and she said "YES" just like that. She will take care of publicity, she said anyone can come and sew (bring along their machines if they have them). She even said we don't have to buy her fabric, people can bring in their own! She is just waiting for snow to melt so she has parking spaces back again, so the target is the end of March, first of April and we get to be the charity of choice!!!! Can you believe it, someone is taking us on as their charity!! I plan to cultivate this relationship so as to try and make us their charity of choice. Who knows someday we may get quilts out of them, don't know what we'd do with them, but we'd use them somewhere for certain. Going out we were all chatting the 3 of them and me. They all wrote down Molly's website so they could learn more about us AND they want to be able to send packages to our babies, too. (This fits into something MA moms are talking about, but it is a secret for now. Just throwing out a little teaser... teehehehe)
She also told me about a group that is having a Million Pillowcase Challenge. Nothing to win money from, but a way to encourage people who are making pc's. She said we should get our name on it for the publicity and/or support. I'm going to try and find it today and I'll put the number from above, but I know there are a WHOLE LOT more, so if someone can get me higher numbers, I'll take them and add to it. Kimmy didn't you do a bunch for your son's ship in Dec.? (I apologize if I named the wrong person.) Wouldn't it be great if we were the #1 pillowcase makers in the country?! I'm just so happy to be a part of all this. Actually just plain happy, too. It is so wonderful to feel this way again. Thanks to all of you who prayed me thru losing my parents, I wouldn't be here today without your support. NAVY MOMS ROCK THE WORLD!!! and support each other thru thick and thin. Thanks again Moms for helping and supporting me thru my own rocky time.
All of this is wonderful news Proud Navy/NYPD mom!!!! You are doing a fantastic job!!! I'm so happy you're feeling happy!
I don't know who made the pillowcases for December.....ladies? Girl, If you saw some of my pillowcases.....you'd know I couldn't crank out more than a few! Bahahaha!!! Really!!
Keep working your magic sista!!!
