Can they take makeup to BC?  My daughter is leaving in a couple of weeks and the recruiter said she could take makeup with her for when she has her pictures taken prior to graduation.  Is this true, can she take makeup with her?  If not, can I send it?  Suggestions?????

They will keep nothing that they take to boot camp.  Everything will be sent back "in the box".  So save her the trouble and yourself and have her take nothing but the clothes she wears for the day and a phone ONLY if she is going to be flying to Great Lakes.  That too will come back in the box which has no packing to it so I also suggest the oldest phone possible in case it breaks in the shipping back home. Contacts can be shipped to them a week before graduation.  Make-up can be bought a week before graduation.  If she is in a division that does well in training, they get rewarded with earlier trips to NEX, but only to purchase things like "real shampoo" or "another razor" and can even purchase some make up at that point but it will be "put away" until pictures and than again until graduation.

NO!  everything gets sent back anyway. you'll get a kid in a box. even their glasses and contacts come back!  you can usually send make-up the week before their pictures.
As one of the moms stated earlier on here - it really depends on who is processing your daughter through at the time.  Some are real sicklers and won't let anything slide, others not so much.  And things do change here and there.  My daughter said there was some makeup available to use for the pictures but she couldn't get any of her own.  I could send some to her the week before graduation and they are allowed to wear it for PIR.  Keep in mind tho' that they don't have much room for stuff.  Some recruits even have to send their letters back home if they want to keep them because they run out of room pretty fast.  And everything they own has to be packed down in their seabag and garment bag - and be carried by them - when they leave GL.  Even if they are going to school there, they still have to carry all their possessions over to the other side.  My suggestion is to find out what your daughter would want for PIR and plan to send that to her just before.  That way she doesn't have to worry about trying to store it.
good idea Anna!

jajajo, My daughter let me know on her second call home to mail powder, eyeliner, mascara.(Her RDC will let her know when she can have it.) I sent a small package the very next day. I waited for her to tell me when to mail it.

Best advice, have your daughter take her cell phone so you can communicate and she can make her call home with it when she arrives at Great Lakes. She will send it home with everything else she took with her. My daughter got to keep her small address book, small navy bible a few photos and her ID with some cash ( she had a small case used to hold credit cards with her ID, ss card, drivers license debit card and 20 cash. everything else came home in the box. A phone card already activated is a blessing for those unexpected calls. Make sure it is activated prior to her leaving.

Where did you get a navy bible from? I got her calling card yesterday with 1140 minutes :) made sure it was activated. Don't want to miss those calls!
Face powder, mascara and eyeliner for pictures only. NO mirrors. If you can't find powder without a mirror, break it out. They are not allowed mirrors. Merle Norman sells a face powder compact without a mirror in it.

Hello Ladies,

My daughter is in bootcamp now and will graduate 2/18/11. In her last letter she said she was able to buy make-up, blow drier and a flat iron. She was very HAPPY. I do not know if she get to use it now or if its only to take pictures. Hope it helps.

Darnell

Hi Darnell,

thanks for the reply.  I hope your daughter is fairing well with the weather that the Chicago area is getting.  Congratulations on your daughters upcoming Grad date.  I'm sure you can't wait to see her.  You must be very proud.

My best and God's blessings,

Lisa

my daughter started bootcamp on 1-12-11 and she did take her bottle of foundation, powder, mascara, eyeliner and i do believe she took a neutral shade of eyeshadow...she got to keep it all so i guess it just depends on the RDC send neutral colors with her maybe
I was able to send her make up  right before she graduated from bc.
My daughter took her makeup with her to BC and it didn't come back in the "box"
