Looking to conect with other families of sons/daughters/love ones leaving for bootcamp March 1st.  My son has MEPS on the 28th of February and swears in/departs from St Louis to Chicago (Great Lakes) on the 1st.

I am so excited/sad at the same time :)

Take care-

My boyfriend just left tonight. He has MEPS tomorrow morning and then flys to Chicago(Great Lakes)

I'm the same way

excited/sad

just trying to boost him up with excitement and confidence so that homesickness doesn't set in too bad.

my son left today too its so sad for me but this is my second child in the navy now i am very proud of them. your son will enjoy this.

Are you all planning to go to graduation?  I have been texting all day with my son.  He is at the airport in Chicago waiting for the bus to the base.  Tomorrow will be hard, wondering how things are going.  I have been strong for him, but I really just want to tell him how much this is upsetting me.  But that wont help...I know!

Nancy- how did you cope?  Does it get easier as the days pass?  He is my first to leave the nest.

Stacy- I too am trying to be strong, but it is hard :(

Look forward to keeping in touch with you- I will update you when I get calls or letters or even grad date:)

Have a great night,

Sherri

Yes I'm going to graduation with his family. I won't be on the list however if the graduation has only a few divisions then I should be able to still go in and see the graduation. I just got "The call" from him. He sounded nervous/scared/pissed off(probably because he just got a lot of yelling). It was tough but I held back the tears to tell him to do a good job, stay excited, have fun, remember why he's doing it and just stay strong. Also that I'd be sending his calling card and letters as soon as possible. The tears started(again) as soon as I said goodbye but I knew that wasn't what he needed to hear. It was one of the toughest phone calls I had to end but I'm so glad I heard his voice one last time. Have you gotten the phone call yet Sherri?

I too will stay updated with you and anyone else we find that had their son/significant other start RTC today.

hope things get easier soon for us both!

I posted some videos and Power Point presentation on my San Francisco Bay Area group. You'll get a sense of what your sons/daughters are going through.

Stacy- yes I got the call at 9:10 and 9:12.  On the first call he just told me he made it there, I was a mess!!!  He was laughing while he was talking, so that made me feel better.  He called back two minutes later, because he forgot to say the other two things (box and call in 3 weeks).  I was much more composed on that call!  Did you see the processing video on youtube?  It just came out end of Februaury.  It was really good and gave me a sense of what the first days are like.  I will be at graduation too, like you we will have more than the allowed.  My husband, daughter, me, grandma and grandpa and my son's girlfiend.  My brother wants to come too.  If you want to connect with my son's girlfriend let me know and I will give you her Facebook link.  I am sure she is having a hard time too.  She is worried that we wont keep in touch while he is gone.
Yes I received three goodbye phone calls because his phone was low on battery so we never knee which call woul be the last. I got one when he arrived at ohare another when he left and then the final call when he was inside bootcamp. And if there are too Many divisions for us to slip in to watch then I will be out there waiting with everyone else. And definitely if you don't mind I would love to be able to talk to her. So far I haven't had the chance to talk to any other girlfriends whose boyfriends just left. I know I've been a mess and nobody seems to understand exactly what I'm feeling. I'm so glad I found this site so that I can have other navy moms and girlfriends to talk to it helps alot. And yes I've watched many videos so far. I wish he could have seen them before he left because I know he's worried because he has no idea what's coming next.
If you know of other moms who haven't seen the videos, please help pass the word - just highlight the link on my comment, "copy" then "paste" on a comment to any other member, blog, discussions.
Thank you and I will.  I watched the videos and looked at the powerpoint.  Made me feel better:)

Here is my facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/sherri.welker

add me and I will connect you to her...

Also Sherri, go to my page and I have two friends. One womans name is Val and her son left the same day and she also has his girlfriend nearby that's hurting as much as we are, she is going to try to get her to join the site two. My other friend is my boyfriends mom and I'm sure she would enjoy another navy mom who's son just left to talk to
How are you doing today?  My mind is scattered- but trying to get some work done today:)  Still hard to believe he is gone, went downstairs to get something off my printer- and for a moment, I thought I should be quite because he is sleeping.  How long will that last???  Just very surreal...
