Hi I am new here and was hoping to interact with others. My son left 2/7/11. I still have not spoke to him. I am praying he is ok and adjusting to bootcamp.

If I understand it right Battlestations is the day or two before graduation and they have to stay up all night long before graduation.  I could be wrong about that.  I heard the same thing about the first 3 weeks. I'm not sure what would make it get better except maybe the fact that you sort of get used to routines and how things work.  I am so proud of our kids!!

Hi girls.  I finally received our first letter.  I'll tell you some details:  My son says, just like you found out soccermom, that "our chief is the second most senior RDC and the most strict on the base.  I get about 5 hours of sleep, and we are pushed hard.  We score better than the division we share a compartment with, and they graduate next week! Food is good, we can only drink water and eat health food, chief's orders." He went on to say they can only send letters on Sundays, which most of us already know, and if the letters are puffy, they have to open them in front of everyone.  So ladies, keep them skinny!  Goes on to say "the 900 division is the music division.  I was playing sousaphone but the director made me drum major. So I lead the band with a silver mace. We perform at every graduation."

It also sounds like he is the division leader of this group.  Says he was assigned RCPO (recruit chief petty officer) in charge of this whole division of 86 recruits. He wanted leadership opportunities, but says this is too much responsibility each day and it is waring on him.  He gets 'beat up' daily for the mistakes of the group.  He got 'beat up' for 3 hours last Wednesday. Bittersweet.  He's a good guy tho and if he had his way he would befriend all of our kids.  But I'm sure the Navy has ideas of molding officers and that is why they are pushing him so hard.  I hope your kids don't write nasty notes about their RCPO.  If so, please tell them he is only doing what the officers are telling him to do and doesn't want to rock the boat and get the whole group in trouble, and not get liberties, like phone calls. ...which he said he should be able to Sunday (today)!!!!!

I am missing church tomorrow just to hang by the phone.  He does say that there are allot of great guys in the division and is making friends. Yay! 

Sorry, but I thought I would share a bit about our division especially for those of you that haven't received a letter or call yet.  Half way there!  Hang in there ladies!!

I got a letter from my daughter and she said pretty much the same thing about the RDC.  She said every other division was already getting to make phone calls, but she thought they would be able to in 2 Sundays, which I'm not sure if that would be today or next Sunday.  Let's keep our fingers crossed for today!!  Otty, tell your son to hang in there.  I'm sure all the recruits know why he has to do certain things to keep them in line!  My daughter is the MA (Master at Arms) for their division.  They probably don't like her much either!!  She said they had their first PFA (physical fitness assessments) and swim qualifications.  She said those went really well.  She did, however, have to get her wisdom teeth pulled, which from what I understand is pretty common in boot. 

Let's hope and pray for phone calls today!!!

Hi Otty, I did not see this until today, that you wrote all of this. That is very nice of you to share this with all of us! My son plays the drums too, maybe our sons know eachother :) The last letter that I received from my son was about a week ago and he sounded good. He said he had his first rack inspection on Tuesday and Thursday he had a test to study for. He thought he was going to do well on it because he has been studying all the time. He got his phone call, but called his girlfirend instead. Apparently he didnt sound too thrilled? IDK, maybe he was just looking for pity?

I received a very short letter from my daughter on Friday and she said the same thing about their RDC.  I don't think they have a lot of time to write because of the extra practice they have to do for the choir.  I wish I knew how many was in her group.

Hi Ladies!   Glad all your SRs are doing well.  Have only received the one letter, but hoping for another this week.  Praying for a phone call, as you all must be.  I have nightmares of missing the phone call.   Keeping the cell phone on loud and with me at all times.:)  Take care!

I did not get my phone call his girlfriend got it! I'm so upset he did not call me. He told her to say hi to me... ughh, well according to her he isn't doing good. He goes straight to "A" school afterwords. Its weird, the other day he said things are getting better and he had his first inspection where they check his rack and this past Thursday he had a test. He said he is trying to make the best of it. I was soo happy to get another letter. I can't believe he didn't call me first.
