So far today has been alot better. I haven't cried....yet. I always seem to get through the day because I'm busy with school and all, but at night is when the crying hits, everynight. I haven't been over to his house yet but I'm going over there tomorrow night to spend some time with his mom and I'm not sure how I'll feel. He's always been there when I came over. To make things worse...my phone died and I've had it plugged in charging for an hour and it won't turn back on, I'm very worried that before I can get it fixed he will try to call and I'll miss it :/
I think we have about 3 weeks before they call :(  That sounds like forever!!!!

Yeah it feels like so far away. I'm actually dreading spring break because alot of my friends are out of town and I won't have school to keep me busy. that will be at the three week mark so a call would really help. However I'm not the only one in his life, he has his mom and dad and brother so I really have no idea who he will call. It's sad he only gets to choose one, I wish he could just call us all because I definitely want the call but I also don't want to take that joy away from his mom either. It's up to him though he's the one with the phone.

Did you buy your son a calling card? I bought a card for mine and I don't know if it will work or not, I've never bought or used one before and I want to be sure he gets one that works, and can call cell phones

@Stacy & Sherri, with your support, your men are going to do just fine. You have not idea how important your support is. It will be even more important when they go out on deployment.

As to who he will call first - depends ages of you and the guys, how long you have been together and if your relationships have been going strong for awhile. I would expect that my son would probably call his gf first. I am more than OK with it. I know where they are heading - the faster the better right - I think the grand babies would be beautiful. If you are a new person in his life, his mother would probably expect to get the first call.

From a mother's perspective, of course.

I would assume my son would call home... but like BunkerqueenBee said, I think it really depends on what he is needing.  Does he need support from a mom/dad/sister or love from a girlfriend.  The hardest part for me, is not knowing if he is okay.  My brother went to Navy Bootcamp and did not make it, due to stress.  I never really thought he wouldnt make it, until now.  I don't know if it is the past that scares me or I am just worried.  I will be so relieved once I get even a letter from him.  He can call who ever he wants, I just want him to write and say "I am okay".  I still have not really cried, only a couple of tears- just trying to be strong:)  I think I would feel better if I just cried... I guess I am waiting for the right time.

Stacy I think working alot the last couple of days has helped, so find something to do during spring break.  Maybe start an exercise program, or increase it that week, do spring cleaning and get organized.

One thing I am going to do while he is gone, is attend church regualrly.  We went to confession (catholic) as a family, because my son wanted to go- before he left.  But I want to attend mass weekly to pray for him and to honor him.  He would appreciate it that, since the only time I would go- is if he went with me.

Hope you have a better day, I will be on the road driving today for 4 hours- more than enough time to be stuck in my head:)

Hi Sherri...My name is Valerie and I am the one in Marshfield, Mo.  I am so happy there is someone else "close" by to talk to.  I know what you mean...I was so happy for him but just losing it.  I am very emotional anyway...tv, movies, songs, commercials, happy times, sad...I cry pretty easy.  So when I had to hug him good bye I thought my heart would stop.  He is my oldest and we are very close.  Although I have now been replaced as #1 by the girlfriend.  I love her to death so that makes it easier.  It is what we want for our kids...to grow up and be their own person but it is the hardest thing I have ever done.  I really look forward to getting to know the other moms from our division.

If you want to have a "live" conversation you are welcome to call me...417-689-4516 or if email is better my email address is   mylifeisgood328@aol.com.

Take care,

Val

Call the recruiter today and get his Address.  I was able to get mine.  I too was a single parent for the first 9 years of my sons life.  So i really understand the closeness- you have when you struggle together!

Ship 3 Div 148, let me know what you all are assigned!!!
Well his recruiter isn't answering they probably are taking an early lunch. I'll try back in an hour. I'm ready to have his address!!!
Three letters already in mail to go out.  One of those paper, envelopes and stamps.  I am making labels tonight with our address and his return address to send to him, to elimnate some steps for him.  I also asked family and friends to send him return envelopes, with their address on it, so he can just put the letter in and stamp it.  Another thing I am doing... is printing out status updates from FB- from his friends, so he knows what they are up too.  I haven't sent any of those yet, but I will at the end of this week.  I have gotten really good ideas on this site.  At least now, I feel like I can do something- knowing his address.
I just put two in the mail. I'm activating his phone card tonight to put in a letter for tomorrow. I sent him off with lots of stamps and told him of he gets low to tell me and I'll send more. And yes tonight I'm buying labels to print mine and his address so he can just stick them on there. And I'm sending an article from yahoo news and a picture. (he may end up having two letters from the same day) I've heard not to make them bulky so I may split it up into two.
Oh and he is div 149 ship 3
What about you Val?
